It’s a big finale night for Bachelor Nation this evening as The Golden Bachelor comes to an end! Gerry Turner has had quite the journey to find true love and he certainly found that — with multiple women. The 72-year-old from Indiana didn’t fully know what he was getting himself into when he met his lucky 22 contestants during the limo entrances, but it’s been an experience he’ll never forget. Going into tonight’s finale, he was down to two women: Theresa Nist and Leslie Fhima.
So many theories and clues were thrown around by fans of The Bachelor franchise leading up to the finale, with so many people convinced Gerry would choose Leslie in the end. Well, as we can see now from the episode, he actually picks Theresa in the end! That’s right, Gerry sends home Leslie in an emotional moment and he later chooses to propose to Theresa. This is what Reality Steve confirmed a few weeks ago.
Gerry and Theresa are still engaged after The Golden Bachelor
There’s no denying the connection Gerry and Theresa have, and as proven in recent episodes, Theresa is completely and genuinely committed to the show’s leading man. In the finale, we learn that the feeling is mutual and Gerry’s love lies with the 70-year-old Jersey girl. So now that we know who wins The Golden Bachelor, fans are all wondering if the two are still together. Well, we come bearing good news for those rooting for them because Gerry and Theresa are currently still engaged!
And not only that, but apparently ABC will televise their upcoming wedding! When the finale began this evening, host Jesse Palmer teased they would be announcing something big later on in the night. Reality Steve took to Twitter to spoil what that surprise would be, revealing the Golden Bachelor couple will return to our TV screens at some point in the future so fans can watch their wedding day unfold:
Theresa got to meet Gerry’s family tonight and afterward, Gerry told Theresa he loved her again and assured her that if he chose her in the end, he would be 100% in. Theresa was hopeful but also understandably fearful, not knowing what Gerry was saying to Leslie. As for Leslie, she could tell Gerry was acting weird after she got to meet his family. Even though Gerry’s daughters really loved Leslie, Gerry clearly wasn’t feeling the same.
Leslie acknowledged that Gerry was acting differently, to which he agreed and apologized. He comforted Leslie, but I don’t think he fully reassured her considering his heart was with Theresa. Their night turned very awkward as Gerry couldn’t express his true feelings. In a weird moment, he embraced Leslie and told her to “be happy” before leaving. He didn’t send her home, but Leslie got the point that he was probably not going to choose her. It was completely uncomfortable and a bit immature.
Gerry realized he made a mistake and went back to see Leslie to talk. He finally came clean with his feelings and told Leslie he had fallen in love with Theresa and would be choosing her. Leslie was understandably angry and asked if everything he told her was a lie. She began crying and Gerry tried to comfort her again, but there wasn’t much he could do. Leslie called the whole thing “typical.” She stood up for herself in an awesome, real way and it broke our hearts so badly to watch her break down. She deserved better!
During the live special tonight, Gerry and Theresa appeared together for the first time publicly as an engaged couple and were happy to confirm they’re still together. They looked back at their relationship on the show and remembered some of their most important moments together.
Reality Steve released the winner spoiler earlier this month, confirming that Theresa and Gerry are engaged. It’s great to hear the two are still together and not entirely surprising, as they seem ready to spend the rest of their lives together after the show. It can be tough to predict if couples from The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise will stay together after their show ends because they’re still young and figuring their lives out, but Gerry and Theresa are older. They know what they want and are more than ready to settle down again with someone new.
The Golden Bachelor has proven to be much more wholesome than we were expecting, though a recent report about Gerry’s past has us questioning the show’s authenticity. That said, a second season is in the cards, and fans are really hoping a season of The Golden Bachelorette will be green-lit too!
For those who have been hooked on Bachelor in Paradise season 9, that finale airs next week on Dec. 9 and it’ll be another supersized one at three hours long.
