Derek Peth dumped Olivia Caridi before joining Bachelor in Paradise cast — now he’s engaged

Derek Peth told his ex, Olivia Caridi, he didn’t want to date anyone from the Bachelor franchise. Now he’s engaged to Bachelor in Paradise contestant Taylor Nolan.

When Derek Peth and Taylor Nolan met on Bachelor in Paradise, many fans were not aware that he recently ended his relationship with Olivia Caridi. The breakup came shortly after Olivia, who hails from Ben Higgins‘ season of the Bachelor, planned to go on Paradise with Derek.

When Olivia talked about her breakup with blogger Reality Steve, that’s when it became obvious Derek wasn’t truthful about his intentions. Olivia confirmed that they did indeed plan to go on the show together but he broke off their relationship, telling her he didn’t want to date anyone from the Bachelor franchise. Is anyone’s head spinning right now?

When Derek ditched Olivia and took the Paradise gig without her, Reality Steve called him out.

“Derek, you do realize that breaking up with the girl because you don’t want to date anyone from the franchise, then going on Paradise … is about the stupidest thing you can ever say to a girl you’re dumping, right?”

Why did Derek decide to go on Paradise?

If he didn’t want to date anyone in the Bachelor family, it sounds like his reason for breaking up with Olivia wasn’t on the up-and-up.

We can’t speak for Derek, but many contestants go on the show to find more than love. Look at Robby Hayes — he claims he’s a “social media influencer” and is now with Amanda Stanton who has 1.1 million followers (Robby has 434,000).

According to TMZ, court documents obtained during a recent child support case with Amanda’s ex-husband revealed she has been raking in $20,000 per month promoting products on social media. So, is Robby’s relationship with Amanda all about love or money? We shall see.

But Derek? Insta-famous? We doubt that will happen.

It’s certainly not the Paradise paycheck that will make him rich. Lesser-known contestants, like Derek, are rumored to make — at best — $7,000 to appear on the show.

Derek arrived in Paradise single and ready to mingle. It took a hot minute for him to connect with contestant Taylor Nolan (Nick’s season).

Except for one totally ridiculous “fight” during this season of Bachelor in Paradise, they have been a solid couple.

And, quite possibly, the most boring couple in Bachelor history.

Even Marcus Grodd and Lacy Faddoul (Season 1) were pretty exciting compared to Daylor. Or is it Tayrek?

Last week, the Paradise reunion show was taped in Los Angeles.

It didn’t take long for word to get out that Derek proposed to Taylor (with a 3-carat Neil Lane ring) and she said, “yes.” Shocker!

We’re not sure why the engagement didn’t happen during the finale, but there’s no doubt producers wanted this boring season to end on a happy note.

The Bachelor in Paradise finale and reunion show air begin at 8 p.m. ET on September 11.
