Lauren Burnham was ready to walk down the aisle in July, just weeks before she met Arie Luyendyk at the Bachelor mansion. What happened?

When you end a long-term relationship, is your first thought to become a contestant on The Bachelor? For some, that may sound like a good way to deal with a breakup. After all, if you stick around long enough, you can travel around the world for free and, maybe, win the heart of the guy who is handing out roses.

Lauren Burnham isn’t the only contestant in Bachelor history who ended a long-term relationship before joining the cast of ABC’s popular reality TV show. However, canceling your wedding not long before signing a contract to become a contestant? Considering it takes awhile to go through the application process, news that Lauren was set to get married in July has us just a wee bit confused.

Wedding bells stopped ringing

Lauren, a 25-year-old sales rep who currently lives in Texas, got engaged to pro hockey player Christopher Crane in July 2016. (see his pic below)

Lauren was supposed to get married to Chris in July 2017, as noted on her now-deleted her wedding website on The Knot.

Their wedding registry at Crate and Barrel is still up and shows a July 8 wedding date. There’s nothing on the registry, but we did find some other info about the couple …

Who cancelled the wedding?

Reddit user RKane44 claims to know Lauren and confirms she was indeed engaged to Crane.

“I actually knew her, she went to my college first two years. Yes she was engaged. He proposed and gave her the adorable Labradoodle she still has. Not sure why they broke it off but she moved to Texas. She was always super nice and used to model. Very pretty and I hope it works out for her.”

According to Reality Steve, the wedding date was indeed set for last July, but Lauren called it off months prior to the day they were supposed to get married.

Although there are several reports that point to Lauren calling off the wedding right before it happened, apparently that’s not true. Steve’s source states that she broke off her engagement in December 2016, just five months after she got engaged.

So, she was officially single for nine months before she met Arie. Totally understandable that she was ready to move on by then.

Here’s a picture of her ex, Chris Crane and one of Lauren with the dog he apparently gave her.

How far does Lauren make it with Arie? Here’s the scoop, if you don’t mind spoilers!

Fun fact that has nothing to do with weddings, breakups, and the Bachelor — Lauren has a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Watch the Bachelor on Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
