‘Bachelor in Paradise’ contestants gave ‘on camera consent’ before hooking up

Bachelor in Paradise returns on August 14 and a new rule may cause some rather awkward moments for contestants who want to hook up.
When Bachelor in Paradise filming resumed last month, contestants had a new set of rules to abide by. The changes took place in light of the Corinne-DeMario scandal and made it more difficult to hookup without being monitored.
After the investigation into sexual misconduct wrapped up, the remaining contestants were called back to Mexico. Host Chris Harrison talked to everyone about the new protocol and, when cameras started rolling, things got a little awkward.
According to contestant Vinny Ventiera, contestants had to log their drinks at the bar. The limit was two drinks per hour. While that’s not a big deal, the other rule is what made everyone a bit uncomfortable.
On-camera consent
Vinny, who will also appear on Million Dollar Matchmaker in August, told E! News all contestants had to give their consent on-camera if they wanted to spend the night with another contestant.

“We had to make sure, on camera, that if we wanted to spend the night with a significant other that it would be on camera and consensual,” Vinny explained.
“As if it’s not already awkward that you’re on camera hanging out with somebody, now you have to go in front of the camera and look at it and go, I’m willing to go spend the night with this person. It wasn’t a buzzkill, but it was a little bit of a speed bump.”
Considering Vinny appeared on Bachelor in Paradise Season 3 where no consent was required, it had to be a bit of an adjustment.
And while it sounds like it may have been a little uncomfortable for some, there really wasn’t much time to sneak away. Because the two-week hiatus took away from filming time, Vinny says the cast had to be up early every day to get the show filmed in just 10 days.
"“It was definitely rapid-fire. Less hours of sleeping, up bright and early. They had to squeeze a whole show into 10 days. I think they accomplished it, I think it’s going to be good”"
Less sleep, fewer drinks, and asking permission to have sex? It couldn’t have been that bad — at least one couple (spoiler) walked away from Paradise in a relationship, so it couldn’t have been that bad.
Watch Bachelor in Paradise starting August 14 at 8 pm ET on ABC.
