The Bachelorette Episode 8 recap: Fantasy suites or bust!

There’s three men left and you know what that means…fantasy suites! But who will make it to the final two?

Last we left our Zamboni-riding Minnesotan, she was saying byeeeeee to Colton, who introduced her to his family, but not to his adorable dog. What gives, Colton? He’s headed to BiP with Tia, and we’re left with the three remaining bro-testants: Garrett, Blake, and good kisser Jason.

We arrive in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Becca is doing her best tourist guide impression, and I have to say, I’m more sold on Thailand than Richmond, Virginia.

Becca confesses she’s in love with two men and falling in love with a third. Jason, you in danger.

She’s had a slower start with Jason, but now she is falling in love with him. She knows he could be a great partner and her best friend. Plus, the chemistry is there. But will their relationship catch up to the others?

Becca’s first date in Thailand is with Blake

Blake describes their connection as electric, and to demonstrate, Becca mauls him with her patented jump-hug.

They are going hiking to a sacred temple. On the hike, they’re not allowed to touch or kiss. They smooch a few more times before they cross onto sacred grounds.

The monks teach them about Buddhist traditions and values. Specifically: honesty, acceptance, patience, and giving. They’re invited to ring a bell to spread their love.


Blake and Becca discuss the wisdom of the monks. Becca really values honesty as she throws shade at Arie. Blake wants to confess his insecurities about the relationships that she’s forming with Jason and Garrett. It’s so weird how he doesn’t want his girlfriend falling in love with other guys.

Blake is losing it

Blake is spiraling into a deep chasm of insecurity. Is she more in love with the other bro-testants?

Becca and Blake sit down and she gives him reassurance about how she feels. At this point, she’s scared of it being “too good to be true” between them. Blake confesses that he’s more in love with Becca than he was with his ex, and that previous heartbreak was so hard. How will he survive if Becca breaks up with him? Blake admits that during the last two weeks, he’s been thinking about her connection with the other guys. She empathizes with him, having been in that situation herself.

Becca asks him if he’s freaked out that he might be committing (read: proposing) in a week and a half. He assures her that he’s not and I believe him. We know he’s insanely into her. Is it too much?

She reaches onto the table and hands him a card with a key to the fantasy suite. Blake is like, “Uhh, YEAH.”

Becca says that despite his fears, she knows he would propose. He’s a sure thing and he’s not going to pull an Arie. But is that enough?

Blake and Becca’s pillow talk

We come back after implied S-E-X.

Blake gets into his head about everything, and Becca doesn’t make him feel any better by talking about waking up this time last year with Arie.

Blake and his abs walk Becca out and I’m worried about how he’s going to take it when she ultimately picks Garrett. She’s going to pick Garrett, right? Who picked Garrett in their Bachelor Fantasy League?

Jason & Becca’s Date


Jason and Becca reunite and she’s wearing the cutest matching crop top and skirt. She has excellent sightseeing wardrobe taste.

They wander through a local outdoor market and sample fried crickets. They go into a temple and as they leave, Becca makes an offhand comment about their future. She starts freaking out, wishing she could take it back. She gets emotional, and a producer takes her aside to talk.

Becca is confused because she is having a great time with Jason, but she’s not seeing the future with him. She is starting to lose it.

Later that evening, Jason and Becca meet up and Jason has no idea that Becca is having all these uncertain feelings.

Becca admits to her fears from earlier that day. Her voice starts to catch and she excuses herself from their table. She’s panicking and she doesn’t know why. She knows he’s a great guy and he’s saying all the right things. But the problem is that she’s in love with Garrett and Blake and only just falling for Jason. She tells us it’s unfair to keep him around when she doesn’t see her getting there with him.

Jason is doomed

Oh no, I knew once I joined Team Jason that he was probably a goner.

Becca returns to the table. She says that for the longest time she could see everything with him. She doesn’t know what her problem is, but she can’t put them through the overnight if its not 100% there.

Jason tries to talk his way into a fantasy suite card. Becca can’t explain what she’s feeling and she knows what it’s like to be blindsided. Jason takes it like a gentleman. He is trying to understand and tells her he’s rooting for her happiness.

They hug goodbye and it’s hard to watch. He’s devastated and shocked. Becca is crying. She knows he’s a great person. He’s one of the best men she’s ever met. She’s wondering what is wrong with her? I’m kind of wondering the same thing. Did she just pull an Arie on Jason?

Becca and Garrett’s date

Becca pounces on Garrett before they head to the river for some bamboo rafting. As they go down the river, they encounter a huge crowd and apparently its a national holiday. People and elephants splash them as they meander down the river.

Garrett tells her that his ability to communicate has grown so much through this process. Becca has a very specific type of communication in mind though. She wants to hear him say he’s in love with her, but she’s not sure if he’s there yet.

That evening, they arrive at a little outdoor oasis. Garrett admits that he almost got cold feet about this process beforehand, not wanting to find himself engaged again with it not ultimately working out. But from the moment he saw Becca, he was excited.

Becca asks how he envisions their future. Garrett says his career can take him anywhere. He’s willing to go wherever and make sure she can accomplish her dreams. Now if only she knew what we knew about his Insta likes.

Falling in love or in love?

Garrett tells Becca he’s never felt this happy with anyone in his entire life. He confesses that he loves her, which is what she needed to hear. He hopes that she’s the last person he says it to and I’m hoping for a surprise Jason comeback. She can still change her mind right? It worked for Arie!

She gives Garrett the fantasy suite card. She asks for his thoughts and he mauls her face. They’re spending the night in a luxurious treehouse and I think I need to go to Thailand.

Becca says that when she sees Garrett, she sees her heart’s equal. But wait — you guys! The promo showed Jason! What does it meaanannnnnnn? If they give him the villain edit, I will start an online petition. Just saying.

The morning after

Becca and Garrett awake in their glamping treehouse. He tells her he could see her being his everyday. Garrett interviews that it was the best date of his life. It would probably be even better if your girlfriend wasn’t in love with another guy as well.

We see that Jason is back as he marches into Becca’s hotel! He says he’s not ready to let it end. What producer talked him into this?

The return of Jason

Becca lets Jason into her hotel suite and they sit down to talk. Jason tells her he couldn’t leave Thailand given how abruptly everything ended. His love for her was genuine and it meant a lot to him to go on this unconventional journey. She assures him that it wasn’t easy for her to end things. She doesn’t want him to doubt that he’s one of the best guys she’s ever met.

This is a very mature break-up. I’m sure he wants her to say, never mind, I love you, stay! But at least he’s not embarrassing himself. I don’t have to start a petition.

I believe this is the producers testing the waters for Jason as the next Bachelor, if Colton or Ben Higgins don’t snatch the title. Jason for Bachelor!

Becca says she’s in love with both Blake and Garrett and can’t picture picking one over the other. Let’s hope she makes the right choice when the time comes.

The final rose ceremony of the season

Blake and Garrett both greet Chris Harrison. Both say they are in love with Becca. And both are wearing matching khakis.

Becca arrives and talks to Chris. She’s in love with Blake and Garrett, but she hasn’t told them. She wants to wait to say those words, after all, she knows what it was like to hear them from Arie and then be crushed.

Becca greets her guys and tells them that she had to send Jason home. They each get a rose if that’s what they want. Are they ready to head to the Maldives and meet up with her family?

This episode receives three out of five Meghan Markles for how much it made me believe in true love. Justice for Jason!
