The Bachelorette Season 18, Episode 1: Most cringeworthy moments
Rose lovers, The Bachelorette Season 18 is back! I cannot explain how happy it makes me that we’ve had two Bachelorette seasons in a single year because let’s be real, they’re way more entertaining than The Bachelor. And after Peter Weber and Matt James’ consecutively dull seasons, I’ve temporarily lost my faith in the guys.
I know it’s just one episode, but Michelle’s season of The Bachelorette looks promising so far! Although most of the night was marred by one suitor who just wanted more screen time, there were good guys after all!
But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. So without further ado, let’s recap some of the most cringeworthy moments in The Bachelorette Season 18, Episode 1, the first chapter in Michelle Young’s journey!
The Bachelorette Season 18, Episode 1: Moment #1: Ryan Is Caught Red-Handed
How the producers of this show, time and time again, manage to set up contestants for humiliation is beyond me (it’s true: the devil works hard, but The Bachelorette producers work harder). Hosts Tayshia and Kaitlyn (who I LOVE with my whole heart!) meet random contestants, enter their hotel rooms and go through their stuff.
This time, they conveniently find files and files brimming with documents in the bags of Ryan, a 30-year-old environmental consultant from California. He has hundreds of pages that explain “how not to be a villain” and “how to get more screen time,” which the hosts deem incriminating. It isn’t pleasant to watch, and I could tell things were about to go down. And they did, but we’ll get into that a bit later.
The Bachelorette Season 18, Episode 1: Moment #2: Michelle’s Ghoster Returns
When Michelle sees Joe step out of the limo, she can tell she’s seen him before, but not quite. They have a conversation about where he’s from because he looks familiar to her, and then Michelle has her Eureka moment!
His name is Joe Coleman, she slid into his DMs once, and they discussed basketball…but then, he ghosted her. It’s sketchy that he waltzed back into her life when she became The Bachelorette, but I’m going to trust our girl Michelle to handle it.
The Bachelorette Season 18, Episode 1: Moment #3: Michelle Confronts Ryan
Rose lovers, the right reasons™ conversation has begun. Michelle asked the guys to be their authentic selves at least five different times in the same night, so it is likely that one suitor’s unauthentic self will be displayed to the rest of the contestants.
When Michelle finally feels good about her group of guys, Tayshia and Kaitlyn tell her all about Ryan and how he has a tutorial of The Bachelorette printed and ready to be used, hidden in his suitcase. Michelle is incredibly mature and understanding and gives Ryan a real chance to explain himself–which he fails miserably. The two then rummage through his stuff as Michelle goes through these documents. It was hard to watch, and I’m just glad she sent him home!
That’s all for this week!
Don’t forget to catch the next episode of The Bachelorette season 18 airing next week on ABC!
