It’s safe to say that this week’s episode of The Bachelorette was explosive. Despite coming so far in the journey, season 17 contestant Greg Grippo seemingly decided to self-eliminate after he believed that Katie Thurston was acting strangely during hometowns.

Naturally, this devastated Katie and left her confused about what led up to Greg’s sudden departure and even more confused as to why she kept apologizing for something she didn’t know that she did in the first place. Because of this, shortly after the episode aired, Katie Thurston took to her Instagram to explain what the term “gaslighting” meant. Is this her way of saying she felt like a victim of gaslighting in the new episode?

Did Katie react to the fight with Greg?

On Monday night, our leading lady posted a slider titled “So You Wanna Talk About Gaslighting” on her Instagram Story. The slider went on to explain that gaslighting involves an individual distorting the truth to confuse another person, making them question their own beliefs or sanity—a tactic many believed Greg used either intentionally or unintentionally.

The verdict is still out as to whether or not Greg actually was gaslighting Katie on Monday, and Reddit fans are butting heads about what they believe truly went down.

“I don’t like this at all,” one Redditor stated. “They were both talking past each other. Not defending him. But, gaslighting isn’t just a phrase to casually throw around.” Another Redditor disagreed, stating, “He straight up gaslighted her. Regardless of what she posts, he sat there and said he deserved better when she has done nothing but give him reassurance and validation throughout the ENTIRE show.”

Both of these opinions are on completely different sides of the spectrum, but there are those in the middle who believe that neither party was at fault and that Katie posted this graphic to educate Bachelor Nation about the dangers of misusing the term.

“This can also be construed as encouraging people to not misuse this term by providing an accurate description of what it is,” one Redditor voiced. “I don’t think it was a good PR move to share this at this point, but I don’t think she should be attacked for this.” This is a pretty solid point.

Perhaps Katie should have withheld from posting following such a heated episode, but maybe she should have also explained what she meant by posting the graphic in the first place. Either way, Bachelor Nation is once again split down the middle and could use an explanation from Greg Grippo to provide some sort of clarity.

We’ll be sure to let you know when or if the season 17 contestant does decide to voice his perspective on the fight, but until then, let’s watch that montage of Greg and Katie over and over again, thinking about what could have been.
