We have only one episode left of The Bachelorette season 17, and things have gone from tense to extremely dramatic. As we now have our final three, Katie Thurston has to make some difficult decisions leading up to that final rose. And she has to deal with a disgruntled contestant who’s very much cracking under pressure. Yup, that would be Greg Grippo.

Greg was the recipient of the first impression rose and the first one-on-one date, meaning he would likely go far on the season. However, throughout the past few weeks, he’s been slowly crumbling as he watches the other men in the house form genuine connections with Katie. And it’s been tough to follow along as a viewer!

Though Katie and Greg have discussed how hard the whole process has been for the New Jersey native to go through, things have only escalated as we went to hometown dates this week and fantasy suites are up next. In tonight’s episode, Greg caught a glimpse of Katie’s date with

Blake Moynes

and was very upset to see them having fun and growing closer. Even though Greg knew what he signed up for coming onto the show, we all know this show cannot be easy. There’s no way I’d survive the tough competition!

Tonight’s episode of The Bachelorette season 17 was particularly rough for Greg. Although he and Katie had a great hometown date, things turned sour once Greg professed his feelings and let Katie know that he needed some answers. He was falling in love with her, but she couldn’t say it back. Greg eventually decided to go to Katie’s room to talk again, and the two began to argue. After a while of back and forth, Greg told Katie he deserved more and he was done. He stormed off, to which Katie then also stormed off.

The episode ended with a cliffhanger as we don’t know what will happen next between Greg and Katie. Although it seemed as though Greg might’ve left, we didn’t get confirmation. Greg was noticeably absent from the teaser for next week’s finale, but I’m suspecting that’s to throw fans off. I’m assuming Greg will be back in the final episode.

Spoilers ahead for The Bachelorette season 17 finale.

Why does Greg Grippo go home on The Bachelorette?

At this point, we’ve actually heard conflicting reports about why Greg leaves The Bachelorette. We know for a fact that he doesn’t win Katie’s final rose, but regarding whether he self-eliminates or if Katie sends him home, we’re not completely certain.

Reality Steve speculates that Greg eliminates himself, taking to his blog and saying the most he knows about the rest of the season is Greg and Katie’s big blowout. He writes:

"“I don’t know at what point at overnights it happens, I don’t know the order of the overnights, or what else plays out. All I know is Greg basically eliminates himself after the blowup with Katie that went on for hours. I have no idea what they’re going to show. I’m sure we’ll see a lot of it, but how they show it, and who they choose to focus on and where their edit is biased towards will be interesting.”"

Alternatively, an Instagram account called @BachelorWhatever claims that Greg does not self-eliminate, and instead, Katie sends him home. The page says that because Katie can’t commit to just Greg and wants to still explore things with Blake, she ends up eliminating Greg.

Both of these conflicting reports seem believable, to be honest. Do you think he’s already gone home, and if so, will he make a return? We’ll have to just tune in for The Bachelorette season 17 finale on August 9 to find out what happens next for Greg.

It’s clear by the end of tonight’s episode that Greg is not happy anymore and something’s got to give. No matter what happens, we know he’ll be heartbroken in the end.
