Monday night’s episode of The Bachelorette Season 17 had some pretty historic moments for Bachelor Nation. There were conversations about interracial couples, the men spoke candidly of grief and their feelings and Katie Thurston recounted her traumatic sexual assault, marking many firsts for the reality franchise.

But for every incredible moment – there was a really weird one. From Blake Moynes being smug (maybe unintentionally?) about getting the one-on-one date, Hunter Montgomery’s love for aggressive games to his totally avoidable beef with James Bonsall…here’s a look back at the most cringeworthy moments we witnessed in The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 5!

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 5: Moment #1: Blake Moynes arrives

Is it just me or does Blake Moynes seem different this season? It’s his third Bachelorette (like he said) so maybe our Africa-loving Wildlife Advocate feels like he really belongs on the reality show this time around. After Katie gave her rose to Blake in Episode 4, the Canadian stud moved into the house with the rest of the guys.

“I don’t like the tension already,” gushes Blake, moments after meeting the guys. Did he really expect a warm welcome? Michael Allio inquires why Blake joined the show a month into the season, and Aaron Clancy makes a mental note of his next target. To make things worse, Blake gets the first one-on-one date of the week–and nobody but him is happy about it.

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 5: Moment #2: The Bachelorette’s Bash Ball

Why does The Bachelorette always come up with games that are capable of seriously injuring the contestants? Bachelor in Paradise veteran Wells Adams and Franco Lacosta were special guests for the group date (that included everyone but Blake and Andrew S). They informed the contestants that they’d be playing a game that was like “rugby meets basketball” (and possibly more violent) before getting them to wear wrestling singlets.

Hunter gets excited about tackling the guys in the other group and the others quickly follow his lead. The tension is at an all-time high and right then, Michael A. gets tackled from behind by Justin Glaze which whips his head back and forth…but on the ground. Chaos ensues when Michael struggles to breathe. The medics arrive, Justin apologizes, Katie calls off the game and the Bachelorette’s Bash Ball wins the cringiest moment of the episode.

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 5: Moment #3: Hunter loves being aggressive

For some odd reason, Hunter really enjoyed the aggressive bash ball game and won’t stop talking about it. No seriously, it’s painstaking to watch. He continues to share how much fun he had during the dangerous game which frustrates everyone and leads Aaron to confess that he “can’t stand” him.

Bachelor Nation, you know what this means. Aaron singlehandedly sent home Cody and was annoyed by Karl and Thomas (who also went home). This is a guy that gets people sent home. Maybe Hunter’s next?

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 5: Moment #4: Hunter and James beef it up

Okay, what happened here? Hunter got the group date rose (to the dismay of fans but well, it was of Katie’s volition) and still set up a mini one-on-one date during the cocktail party, while the men without roses struggled to have time with Katie. Hunter even brings in a telescope to show Katie the stars–but James B. (aka mystery box dude) isn’t having it.

James tries to stay calm, composed, and respectful regardless of what’s going on, but with the clock ticking, he knows he needs to talk to Katie to seal his rose for the night. James interrupts Katie and Hunter’s little date, but Hunter asks for more time. James interrupts again and gets the gal, much to Hunter’s frustration.

Their argument is already unnecessary but the men decide to have a conversation about it, and of course, Hunter plays pretend. He goes on to express his “I don’t give a d**n” attitude while Bachelor Nation wonders if the season’s new villain has finally emerged.
