A new episode of The Bachelorette Season 17 has dawned upon us! Bachelor Nation has patiently watched as the first month of Katie Thurston’s journey to find love unraveled on our television screens.
A new week calls for a recap of the most cringeworthy moments Bachelor Nation was acquainted with this week. From the fan-favorite Greg Grippo’s oblivious whispering of sweet nothings into Katie’s ears to a wannabe-Bachelor’s humiliating elimination, and a surprise that rattles Katie to her very core…here’s a look back at the most cringeworthy moments of The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 4.
The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 4: Moment #1: Greg’s Disturbing Version Of Dirty Talk
The first group date of the week featured “Katie’s Truth or Dare” game. Temporary co-host Tayshia Adams explained that the dares are meant to push the men “mentally, physically, and emotionally”…and they don’t hold back. From a brief stint at the “Carb Station” to the men chomping on habanero peppers and proposing to Katie with tears streaming down their faces, it wasn’t exactly an easy date for the group.
Then came Greg. When it was his turn to whisper sweet nothings into Katie’s ears aka a giant papier-mâché ear that had been rigged with a microphone, Greg foolishly believed that the Bachelorette and her company couldn’t hear what he had to say. Poor Greg went on and on about showing Katie the “50 states”, and the girls heard every single word of his bizarre dirty talk.
The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 4: Moment #2: Tre’s wax challenge
In the next part of Katie’s Truth and Dare game, Tre and Christian faced a provocative challenge. As his partner, Christian had to wax the “hairiest” part of Tre’s body. Tre wasn’t joking when he said he was being “daring” at the moment and allowed his partner to wax his behind. Katie’s suitors sportingly powered through the challenge, but the same cannot be said for those watching.
The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 4: Moment #3: A New Suitor Arrives For Katie
The Bachelorette Season 17 has quickly become one of the boldest seasons yet, and this week’s episode brought to life a spoiler that has been going around the Internet for quite some time. Tayshia Adams informed Katie about her potential new suitor, a man from her past who she believes has “good intentions”. When Katie arrives to meet her new man–we see that it’s Blake Moynes.
As Bachelor Nation already knows, Katie is the third Bachelorette being pursued by Blake (after Clare Crawley and Tayshia Adams). It’s not a good look for Blake, and with all the “right reasons” drama ensuing in the house, Katie is apprehensive and addresses the elephant in the room immediately.
However, Blake’s boyish charm and “handsome” looks convince her to consider letting him stay. It’s impossibly hard to watch Blake persuade Katie that the show is the last place he wants to do this. After their conversation, Katie takes a time-out until the rose ceremony, Blake goes back to his room, and viewers are left frustrated because no one, I repeat, no one ever asked to see Blake Moynes!
The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 4: Moment #4: No Roses For Thomas Jacobs
Rose ceremonies are hard…but they can be empowering too. During this week’s episode, just as the Bachelorette was about to begin giving out roses, she was interrupted by Thomas Jacobs who wanted to “openly apologize”. Thomas was sorry for giving out the impression that he’s wasn’t there for the right reasons. Everyone just stares, including Katie who appears to have made up her mind.
After Tayshia and Kaitlyn arrive to let the men know that Katie is about to give out her last rose of the evening, the Bachelorette calls out for Thomas. He is relieved, and the others are feeling the opposite. What comes next is a jaw-dropping moment, probably the biggest one since Hannah B. (The Bachelorette Season 15) moved the podium to ignore Luke P.
Katie takes a step back and tells Thomas that he is “selfish, unkind and a liar”. She further adds: “Your Bachelor audition ends tonight… so get out” and sends him home.
Bachelor Nation fans are pretty divided about Katie’s decision to humiliate Thomas because a) there wasn’t enough evidence to prove that Thomas really was the monster everyone painted him to be and b) he was simply being honest about the fact that certain contestants on The Bachelorette end up becoming The Bachelor.
Now, poor Thomas isn’t the wordsmith we hoped he would be and didn’t justify the claims well-enough in his conversation with Katie, but at least he was honest–which is the one thing Katie wanted the guys to be.
How do you think the guys will react now that Blake is all set to be joining them? Let us know in the comments!
The next episode of The Bachelorette Season 17 is Monday, July 5th, on ABC at 8 PM EST!
