Bachelor alum Taylor Nolan issues another apology for controversial tweets
By Julia Wagner
After a wide range of offensive and racist tweets from Bachelor alum Taylor Nolan surfaced a few days ago, Nolan released an apology, stating:
"My tweets from ten years ago are s—-y, they suck, they were wrong, and are hurtful… I want to be clear that they don’t take away from the work I do today; they are literally how I got here to doing this work."
Unfortunately, many people from both inside and outside of Bachelor Nation called out her apology, as fellow alum Bekah Martinez put it, “self-congratulatory and snarky”.
On Monday, Taylor released a second apology on her Instagram account, which many have seen as an improvement and addresses the shortcomings of the first apology. In the caption, she posted a quote from Bekah Martinez, in which Martinez details why it may be difficult for people to accept this new apology after Nolan “showed a part of [her]self” in the first apology.
The Taylor Nolan controversy comes hot off the heels of the racial controversy surrounding Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell and host Chris Harrison.
Nolan has dedicated a large amount of space on her platform to marginalized communities in the past. However, in light of Taylor’s long-running criticism of Bachelor Nation member’s offensive behavior, and her willingness to critique others’ apologies, fans seem to be worrying that Nolan does not practice what she preaches.
In the latest episode of their Chatty Broads podcast, Bekah Martinez and Jess Ambrose pointed out that if Bachelor producers had vetted contestants properly, as Nolan has repeatedly encouraged them to do, Nolan herself should not have been cast on the show.
We will have to see what happens in the days and weeks to come!
