On The Bachelor season 25 this week, hometowns week proved to be full of surprises, some good and some definitely not so good. A few conversations Matt James had proved as surprising as the dates the contestants came up with. Most notably, one conversation left us with some very big questions about what was said.

For the most part, Matt James seemed to hit it off pretty well with the families of the final four. And some of the chats proved more revealing than others. While Michelle Young was discussing her feelings for Matt with her father, she revealed something about her past that many viewers were surprised to learn.

Breaking down in tears, Michelle referenced an incident she went through when she was in a “really hard place,” to which her dad asked to confirm, “Yeah, a year ago, two years ago?” Michelle then nodded. Her dad assured her that she’s been able to bounce back from whatever happened, and the two shared a loving embrace.

While the 27-year-old didn’t give too much away, it was clear from the teary conversation and her father’s consoling that whatever happened back then didn’t end well for Michelle. And now fans online can’t stop talking about it.

On Twitter, many who watched hometowns week seem to be asking, “what happened to Michelle?,” And rightfully so. Even though the contestant was a late arrival, she’s definitely earned her place as a fan-favorite who deserves a truly great relationship, even if it’s not with Matt James.

Fans are willing and ready to come to Michelle’s defense for whatever happened two years ago, but right now, most still really want to know what went down in the first place.

Some viewers are also upset that certain bullying contestants were given so much camera time early on, and yet somehow, we never learned Michelle’s backstory. Now more than ever, those in Michelle’s corner are petitioning for her to become the next Bachelorette.

Regardless of what we don’t know, Michelle Young is definitely deserving of true love. As for what really went down two years ago, maybe we’ll get the story straight from the contestant soon enough.
