The Bachelor Season 21, Episode 13: The Finale

I always love when The Bachelor changes up its traditional tropical locale in favor of a wintry finale, and the snowy expanse of Finland was very Narnia-esque, as Rachel so aptly observed in the previous episode. Down to two women, Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi, Nick got the chance in this episode to go on some truly precious dates. Nick’s family, who viewers had become very familiar with after their multiple appearances on past seasons, were also featured in this episode. All of this was punctuated by Chris Harrison repeatedly reminding us that Nick could end up heartbroken. AGAIN.

After some lovely emotional moments with the family, Nick and Vanessa had a very special guest on their final date— Santa Claus! Santa invited them into his cottage and interviewed them about their relationship. How magical! On their date, Nick and Raven ice skated to the tune of “Kiss Me” (whenever this show interjects an actual song it feels so strange) and then got to play with several adorable husky puppies!

In the end, Nick proposed to Vanessa in a room filled with reindeer pelts, and it was a very sweet moment, although it started off awkwardly when Vanessa told Chris Harrison she was nervous before going inside, and he replied: “You should be.” Haha, what??

It can feel odd to rewatch the proposal of a couple that is no longer together, but if we applied that to every couple from the show, we’d hardly get to rewatch any proposals at all!

This was a very lovely finale to one of my personal favorite seasons. Would you agree?
