The Bachelorette’s Garrett Yrigoyen’s social media ‘likes’ spark outrage
By Ruby Maxwell
Becca gave Garrett the first impression rose on the Bachelorette premiere, but his actions on social media may make her have second thoughts.
When Bachelorette contestant Garrett Yrigoyen rolled up to the mansion in a minivan, Becca Kufrin was instantly smitten. First impressions are important and Garrett succeeded by saying all the right things.
Unfortunately, he left out a few important details about himself that may make him a total mismatch for Becca.
Garrett, 29, hails from Reno, Nevada where he works as a surgical technology consultant. Sounds totally normal, right? Decent looking guy, sense of humor, wants marriage, family, and all that good stuff.
What’s not to love?
Plenty, if what we’re reading about Garrett is 100% accurate.
It didn’t take long for some disturbing information to surface about Garrett that should raise a few red flags about his compatibility with Becca.
He recently deleted his Instagram account and created a new one that currently has only one post — his Bachelorette bio photo.
Curiously, this happened after it was discovered that he was liking rather unsavory social media posts.
Why would Garrett delete his original Instagram account?
We can’t speak for Garrett, but here’s what the HuffPost writers Claire Fallon and Emma Gray have to say about the situation.
Fallon and Gray have gathered enough dirt about Garrett to make us concerned that Becca may not know the real deal about Garrett, who is rumored to go the distance this season.
“Garrett … appears to have a history of liking social media posts that mock trans people, undocumented immigrants, left-wing women and one Parkland high school student. Yrigoyen’s Instagram account, made private on May 24 and then deleted, appears to have liked numerous posts from right-wing pages, including that of conservative personality Tomi Lahren and a clothing company called Merica Supply Co.”
It doesn’t matter if Garrett’s conservative beliefs are a total mismatch with liberal Becca, who has posted her support for Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and women’s rights.
People can agree to disagree.
It does matter that Garrett has reportedly “liked” posts that trash feminists, transgenders, and undocumented immigrants.
The Huff Post reports that before Garrett deleted his Instagram account, “he consistently liked memes that mocked feminists and transgender people and made light of violence against undocumented immigrants.”
The report goes on to say that “one image his account liked appears to ridicule ‘leftist women’ for being fat; another jokes about U.S. military addressing undocumented immigration by throwing small children over the border wall.”
Ugh. So much for Garrett being a perfect catch!
Former Bachelor contestant Ashley Spivey posted some of the screenshots from posts Garrett reportedly “liked” …
What does Becca know?
Keep in mind, when Becca was handing out roses and falling in love, she didn’t have access to the internet.
That means she couldn’t look up information about any of her guys, including Garrett.
Hopefully she had some deep and meaningful conversations with everyone, although most dates seem to last about a minute in real time.
SPOILER ALERT
Sorry for the spoiler, but here’s something that’s important to note…
Rumor has it that Garrett makes it really, really far this season.
If Becca knew about Garrett’s reported social media “likes,” would it influence her decision to keep him around longer than the other guys?
