The Bachelorette season 22 pulled from ABC schedule (and it might not return in 2025)

ABC's long-running series The Bachelorette is about to take an unexpected hiatus that could result in the show not coming back until 2026.

In a shocking twist, ABC has announced it will not be bringing The Bachelorette back this summer with the network pressing pause on the long-running staple. 

As first reported by Deadline, season 22 is no longer slated to come to the network as part of ABC’s annual summer schedule and there is a good chance the show might not return in any capacity this year. The decision comes on the heels of when production would typically begin on new seasons and it is unclear what factored into ABC’s decision to press pause on The Bachelor spinoff series which has been a mainstay on ABC for several years. 

News of the decision not to bring The Bachelorette back for the summer season comes on the heels of what has been a turbulent stretch for the franchise. Bachelor in Paradise sat out 2024 with no season in the summer or fall with ABC instead bringing fans a season of The Golden Bachelorette in the fall. 

The Bachelorette is not canceled 

The biggest thing that needs to be stressed is that ABC has not canceled The Bachelorette, the network is simply pressing pause on the series for the time being. ABC is still very much invested in the franchise, though it has not yet been revealed whether the show will be returning in 2025 as there is a chance we won’t get a new season of The Bachelorette this year. 

There is a chance the show could return for a season in the fall as ABC has reportedly not ruled out the possibility of season 22 coming in the fall; however, it is looking unlikely that a new season will be coming in 2025 and we might have to wait until 2026 for the next season of The Bachelorette to arrive. 

Interestingly, ABC took a similar approach in having Bachelor in Paradise take a year off with no new season airing in 2024 and the show is slated to return in 2025 following its break. 

The decision could make for an interesting transition for the franchise as typically ABC taps someone from the recent cast of The Bachelor to lead The Bachelorette, and then looks to a breakout from The Bachelorette to reveal the next season of The Bachelor. With The Bachelorette taking a break, there is a chance ABC is going to have to turn to favorites from Bachelor in Paradise or past seasons of the shows to find its lead.
