The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist file for divorce three months after their televised wedding
By Ariba Bhuvad
With a saddened (and not so shocked) heart, we announce that The Golden Bachelor's Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have filed for divorce. After a dreamy televised wedding in January, the couple decided to dissolve their marriage only three months later.
What exactly happened? Was it because of the article that was released about Gerry's past? Or is it simply two people realizing that they are just not meant to be together? We break down what Theresa and Gerry had to say about their split and more below!
"It's probably time to dissolve our marriage."
It was a whirlwind journey to finding one another when it comes to Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist. It all began with the first-ever senior citizen version of The Bachelor as Gerry took on the mantle of being the first Golden Bachelor ever. It was quite an exciting addition to the franchise that has only ever focused on the younger generation.
Gerry's journey to finding love once again inspired an entire generation that had seemingly given up on falling in love later in life. Watching Gerry's journey and witnessing him fall in love with and then get engaged to Theresa Nist was quite magical indeed.
Fast forward to their wedding in January 2024, it was a magical moment to see them commit to one another and revive the hope that love can be found no matter what your age is. It was a wonderful ceremony, and it appeared like despite all the drama from Gerry's controversial past, things were going to be okay.
...Until they weren't.
The morning of April 12th, 2024, the couple took to Good Morning America to announce that they are going to be getting a divorce. While most of us aren't that shocked, it is sad news to learn about nonetheless. We wanted them to work out, but the odds were honestly stacked against them.
Both Gerry and Theresa seemed to be in good spirits despite the decision and were quick to squash any rumors or assumptions people may have about their divorce. Theresa claimed she knew about Gerry's past and it didn't factor into their decision.
Instead, Gerry and Theresa, while holding hands, shared the reason behind their split is because they are both incredibly close to their families and couldn't decide on where to live. That push and pull to want to be near their loved ones inevitably led to the decision that the marriage simply wouldn't work.
It's surprising to hear them say that because there was a lot of conversation about them sticking it out and giving it their all, despite the circumstances. However, Gerry also stated that instead of faking it, they would rather part ways then pretend all is well.
I guess we have to respect that, even if some of us may be skeptical about the reasoning they gave us. If it did not work, then it did not work, whatever the timeline or reasoning.
It's a tough pill to swallow, given the hype and hope that came from The Golden Bachelor. It also puts a bit of a damper on the upcoming season of The Golden Bachelorette, doesn't it?
Sigh, it's a sad day, but we send our best wishes to Gerry and Theresa and hope they are able to work through this divorce and split in the best way possible for each of them.
