The Bachelorette Season 21, Episode 8: Best and worst moments
By Julia Wagner
1. Best Moment: Jesse Palmer’s School of Golf
One of the highlights of The Bachelorette this week was seeing the men out on the golf course with Jesse Palmer. Of course we know he was an NFL quarterback back in the day, but he looks like he’s also a very decent golfer!
Out on the driving range, Jesse chats with Devin, who reveals that he’s putting more into the relationship than he’s getting back (welcome to The Bachelorette), and also with Marcus, who reveals that he’s struggling to fall in love after only a few weeks (again, welcome to The Bachelorette).
Jesse is really shining in this role. He’s proving to be a very active listener (I love how he stares unblinkingly at whomever is speaking), and is good at voicing his understanding to the men.
Obviously most of the men share their innermost thoughts only with each other and their producers, so it’s nice to see a little bit of that come out on camera in these chats.
2. Worst Moment: Cliffhanger
After Devin's Fantasy Suite date, during which he reiterates to Jenn that he is in love and does not hear it back, Devin is forced to sit with his thoughts the rest of the week, cooped up in a hotel room, knowing she’s on dates with other men.
After another chat with Palmer, he decides to go talk to Jenn and express that he doesn’t feel loved in return. As soon as she opens the door, the episode ends!
Ahhh. I know the show has to have cliffhangers like this in order to keep us interested, but this one almost felt too cruel! I don’t know if I can enjoy The Men Tell All tomorrow night without knowing if Devin is going to stick around.
I feel for Devin. He’s been cheated on before, been treated as the “safe” guy, been treated as “just an option,” and this is obviously extremely triggering for him. Part of me wonders why he would ever come on this show, where you are automatically treated as an option, where the lead is forced to date other people and usually can’t express their feelings to you until the end. But I know that nobody truly knows what they’re signing up for until it gets real!
We will see! I just want to skip over The Men Tell All and get right to next week. Cliffhangers can be cruel!
