Monday night’s episode of Charity Lawson’s season marked the 20th anniversary of The Bachelorette!  Very surreal. I’ve been watching this show almost my entire life and I still get so excited on premiere day!

The Bachelorette Season 20’s premiere had a few new changes that worked well. For instance, the men’s intro packages are now shown as they emerge from the limo, which I thought was a great choice–it helped me keep everyone straight!

But of course, the premiere also had its less-than-ideal moments.

Let’s get to the best and worst moments of The Bachelorette premiere!

The Bachelorette Season 20, Episode 1: Worst moment: Faux Brayden drama

Really? This whole thing felt soooooo producer manipulated.

To recap, Brayden hit it out of the park during his one-on-one time with Charity, and they ended up full-on making out. They were positively glowing afterward.

What could go wrong?

Of course, it can never be that easy.

Being honest (and very talkative), Brayden naturally told people who asked that he was excited and felt he had a good chance of getting the First Impression Rose. This is, of course, a cardinal sin. You must never assume you’re getting a rose!

Charity’s brother promptly reports that Brayden seemed “arrogant,” implying that he was bragging about how their time went.

Is it cocky to say, “I might get a rose,” when he just made out with Charity? He had every reason to think that!

This was just so overblown. It quickly became apparent that Brayden (and the audience) were just being manipulated. I’m glad Charity gave him the First Impression Rose in the end, but did we need to fake out the audience this way?

If this is the best they could come up with for drama this premiere, that’s scraping the bottom of the barrel. What happened to real, natural drama?

Sigh.

The Bachelorette Season 20, Episode 1: Best moment: The rain!

Okay, I loved that it was raining all night. I found it so romantic and charming and a reminder that even The Bachelorette can’t make everything perfect.

It made the environment sound and look so much more beautiful.

Some producer usually has to hose down the driveway to get that shimmery wet look, but Mother Nature took care of it for them this year!

Next. The Bachelorette's Aaron B age, job, and more. dark
