Back on the water for The Bachelorette Season 19, Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey travel to Bruges, Belgium continuing their journey to find love. As the men thin out, relationships grow deeper. Now that the men have chosen their path, Rachel or Gabby, they can focus their sights on one woman…except Logan.
Let’s find out what happened to Logan and The Bachelorettes in this emotional episode of The Bachelorette Season 19, Episode 5!
The Bachelorette Season 19, Episode 5 recap
1) The Big Reveal
Rachel’s group date was the first date of the episode, but the drama had to start as soon as the names were read off the date card. Everyone but Aven was invited to the group date, and Logan finally gathered enough courage to tell Rachel he had stronger feelings for Gabby. Rachel took this about as you’d expect, having faced so much rejection up to this point. She asked him a valid question, why did he keep accepting roses from her?
It was unclear at this moment what would happen to Logan. He didn’t go on the group date with the men as they walked around Bruges. Meanwhile, Rachel was back in her cabin trying to decide what to do for that day’s date. Jesse discussed this with her, and she inevitably canceled the group date. The silver lining was that the group would still be able to see Rachel at the after-party.
Logan went to Gabby next and told her how he was feeling and how his conversation went with Rachel. Gabby is still interested in Logan and admitted that he was the only overlap between the two Bachelorettes. Gabby and Rachel have a conversation about what to do with Logan. Rachel leaves his fate in Gabby’s hands and hopes she sends him home.
Rachel did go to the after-party and explained the Logan situation to the guys. She asks if anyone else feels the same way as Logan, but everyone elects to stay. As the guys consoled Rachel, Tino steps out and says that he felt hurt because Rachel didn’t come to talk to him about what was going on. This worked to his benefit as their relationship is leaps and bounds ahead of the others. Then Zach and Rachel share a moment screaming out their frustrations. In the end, Rachel gave her group date rose to Tino…again.
2) Belgian Boys
Gabby’s group date took the guys on a tour of Bruges on The Bachelorette Season 19. They went on a boat, tasted waffles, took on children in soccer, and played a Belgian fish slapping game. Erich, Nate, and Jason shared special moments with Gabby during the group date. However, as the men prepare for the after-party, they are talking about the date, and the small group with Logan walks in.
The guys didn’t respond well, but Gabby came in and explained the situation. Most aren’t fans of adding Logan and have their suspicions, but in the end, it’s Gabby’s journey to find love, not theirs. Most felt that Gabby needed to explore any relationship she felt the need to. Logan and Gabby also share a moment where he expresses his feelings again.
Gabby said that what is important is following your heart and doing it with integrity. I would question Logan’s integrity after agreeing to several of Rachel’s roses even though his feelings were fading.
In the end, Rachel gave out her group date rose to Nate, a front runner, to win her heart. Several guys are left questioning their position with Gabby and her feelings for them.
3) One-on-one in Belgium
Aven and Rachel tour the city on the third international one-on-one date of The Bachelorette Season 19. The couple toured the city on a boat, horseback, foot-tasting, and seeing all Bruges had to offer. As they were touring, some street merchants created a wedding veil for Rachel, and the two practiced a wedding day kiss.
The dinner was a time for the two to get to know each other deeper. Aven talks about his childhood and having to bounce between his parents’ houses. Aven talks about how his mother made him a bracelet to remember her and to stay positive. He gave it to Rachel as a good luck charm, hoping it would make her journey easier and smoother. Rachel gives her rose to Aven, and the two share a long kiss to cap off the night. Not only were figurative fireworks going off between these two, but actual fireworks were in the background. Rachel admits that she is almost falling in love with Aven.
Johnny was invited to Gabby’s one-on-one. Gabby wants to see Johnny’s deeper side and see if he has a balance between the funny, goofy side and the more serious side. The two go to a local brewery and do some beer tasting before getting a spa day…at the brewery. They bathe in beer, hit each other with hops, and rub odd spices on each other. Check the box for goofy.
Then they go to dinner in a cathedral, hoping they can have a more serious conversation. Johnny goes there talking about past relationships and his struggles with depression. Gabby opens up about her struggles with anxiety and depression. Johnny accepts Gabby’s rose, and the two cap the night off with a kiss and a run through the streets of Bruges.
4) The rose ceremony
Now that all the dates are over, the men moved to the rose ceremony, the second on the cruise ship for The Bachelorette Season 19. Rachel’s men are shocked that Logan is still here and now on Gabby’s team. The consensus is that nobody likes Logan right now.
As Gabby’s guys pull her aside and try to create one last moment, Logan gets his time with Gabby. The two reenact the fish taken from her group date and share a long kiss. Some of Gabby’s guys start thinking they are on the outs despite being there for Gabby since day one. Logan shows up that morning and already knocks them out of the running.
They didn’t show much of Rachel’s talks with guys as Jesse announced the rose ceremony was set to begin. Having already given roses to Aven and Tino, Rachel gave roses to Zach, Tyler, and Ethan. This sent Meatball packing. Gabby gave Nate and Johnny roses during the dates, and Jason, Spencer, Erich, and Logan. This meant that Micheal and Mario went home. This is after spending five weeks with Gabby, much more time than Logan had. Two weeks until hometowns mean things are going to get serious quickly. The next stop in the journey is Amsterdam.
As the credits roll, they preview what is to come on this season. Let me tell you, if you think it has been dramatic thus far, just wait. It sounds like things are going to get real interesting real quick.
