Who remembers Cam Ayala from Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette? He was the guy who got her first impression rose and made quite an impression on Bachelor Nation. He made an appearance on the sixth season of Bachelor in Paradise but has been keeping under the radar since.

Earlier this week, Ayala posted on his social media after going a leg amputation surgery. It caught many by surprise as he posted about his recovery process and what life has been like since losing his right leg.

Our hearts and well wishes go out to Cam A. as he continues to push through in his recovery!

Cam Ayala opens up about recovering from leg amputation surgery

Back in 2018, Ayala posted about his lymphedema diagnosis, which is a condition in which tissues in your body swell up because of fluid build-up that is normally drained through the lymphatic system. He was officially diagnosed with the condition in 2002 and later suffered an infection in his right knee in 2014. This eventually led to 13 surgeries but ultimately the best-case scenario for him was getting the leg amputated.

Ayala shared that he dealt with a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding his diagnosis and amputation, but he seems to be handling everything from a positive perspective since his surgery. This is good news considering Ayala faced a lot of criticism during his time on The Bachelorette.

When he opened up to Hannah Brown about his diagnosis and how he almost had his leg amputated, the contestants all declared that Ayala did it for a ‘pity rose’. Of course, things are heated and intense in the middle of a competition so things are said, but it’s certainly heartbreaking to know that he did eventually get an amputation.

The path ahead won’t be easy but we wish Cam all the best in the future!

Get well soon, Cam A.!
