The Bachelor: So, was Elizabeth in the hot tub during Shrimp Gate?
By Ariba Bhuvad
The question that has been on the minds of every The Bachelor Season 26 fan. Was Elizabeth in the hot tub or not?! Just to backtrack a little, there has been a war raging between contestants Elizabeth Corrigan and Shanae Ankey, and it resulted in something we’ve come to know as Shrimp Gate. Honestly, I’d rather be dealing with Champagne Gate right now, but alas, here we are.
Anyway, during this fight, Elizabeth said she was not in the hot tub when Shanae was offering her the shrimp. Things hit the fan when Shanae just kept chowing down on the shrimp which Elizabeth had cooked. Clayton Echard tried to calm things down, but Shanae said Elizabeth had bullied her and that everyone said they loved the shrimp Elizabeth cooked and no one said anything about the shrimp Shanae made later.
And then, Elizabeth fired back and said that she was only “in the hot tube once and it wasn’t that day”. Amidst all the drama, Clayton ended upsending Elizabeth home and keeping Shanae around. Was that the right call? Did he act too hastily? Let’s discuss some more below.
Was Elizabeth in the hot tub or not?
Apparently, Elizabeth was in the hot tub if you go back and watch the third episode. So while Sarah was on her one-on-one date with Clayton, Elizabeth made garlic butter shrimp for everyone. Shanae complimented the shrimp and Elizabeth, but things took a turn when Elizabeth pointed out that Shanae was chowing down on the shrimp (remember the shrimp counter?).
Shanae’s jealousy came out when everyone complimented Elizabeth’s shrimp which led Shanae to cook some shrimp later. And then this is where we see Elizabeth in the hot tub. Shanae went to Elizabeth who was in the hot tub and offered her the shrimp she made.
Someone else ended up taking the plate, and this is where the whole argument began over Shrimp Gate because Elizabeth didn’t pay attention to Shanae. I know this is a lot to process and remember, but we’re almost done.
Funny enough, Elizabeth did pass around the shrimp plate around and everyone ended up eating the shrimp, even though Shanae apparently didn’t realize it. So this is all to say that we’re not sure whether or not Clayton’s decision was right since he didn’t have all the facts. Elizabeth did lie and it could be argued that she was the one to instigate the fight with Shanae, but it is all more complex than that.
We can’t forget the whole ADHD conversation that came up and how Elizabeth was ridiculed for that so the blame can and does go both ways. I’m not sure how I feel about it all because The Bachelor production is to blame for making anyone and everyone look bad when they had different intentions. It’s their job, and they relish in the drama of it.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how things play out during the After the Final Rose special where all the dirty laundry will reveal itself.
Drama, drama, drama. And Shrimp Gate.
What are your thoughts on the Shrimp Gate drama?
