Bachelor in Paradise couple Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian have broken up

Bachelor in Paradise couple Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian have officially called it quits. After weeks of speculation by fans and a lot of Instagram and Twitter stalking, we now have the confirmation we were waiting for but absolutely dreading.

PEOPLE confirmed the devastating news revealing that just as fans had suspected, the couple broke up a couple of weeks ago. They both released a statement to PEOPLE regarding the breakup, although we have yet to see anything pop up on their social media.

“We have decided to go our separate ways. Never did we imagine this, but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves. We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this,” Gunn and Christian said.

Sigh, did anyone else’s heart just break?

Another Bachelor in Paradise couple parts ways

Maurissa and Riley met in the most recent season of Bachelor in Paradise and immediately fell in love. They dreamt of beautiful Sunday mornings together, and while they did have a handful of those following the show, those are now over.

Their engagement went down as historic as they were the first Black couple in the history of Bachelor in Paradise to get engaged. It was truly a big moment for the franchise and one that was celebrated by fans all over.

Back in October 2021, the couple couldn’t have seemed happier and were all over the media gushing about their connection. And then the holidays came around and fans began to notice that Maurissa had removed all Instagram posts with Riley in them. Then eagle-eyed fans notified that she was liking cryptic tweets about heartbreak and betrayal which only added fuel to the fire.

The same goes for Riley who posted a 2022 inspirational video about facing things head-on and always “pushing forward”. At that point, most fans came to the conclusion that these guys had definitely parted ways, and now we have our confirmation.

It’s always tough when a Bachelor Nation couple breaks up, but this one felt extra special so it hurts a bit more. But we only wish the best for both Maurissa and Riley and wish them nothing but happiness–even if it is not together.
