The Bachelorette Season 18 is finally here! I for one am delighted we are being gifted with two back-to-back Bachelorettes.
Last night brought all the joys of a premiere: Long shots of our Bachelorette Michelle Young staring out at a lake (so Minnesota!), some priceless limo exits from the men, and some precious fifth graders. Surprisingly, we only had a small number of men in costumes!
Also, Michelle’s eyebrows are on point. As are Chris’. He got his brows done and he’s not afraid to share that!
I do wish we had seen more of the pre-premiere night talk, including a more relaxed girl talk with Tayshia and Kaitlyn, maybe some moments of Michelle being styled, getting her makeup done, etc. I want more behind the scenes!
Let’s get to the best and worst moments of The Bachelorette Season 18 premiere!
The Bachelorette Season 18 premiere: Worst moment: Joe’s entrance
When Joe exited the limo, an awkward moment ensued when Michelle clearly recognized him but couldn’t place his face. Instead of answering her question of how they knew each other, Joe was deliberately vague and said they would talk about it more inside.
This has happened a few times over the years–I remember Liz’s exit on Nick’s season when she didn’t let him know how they knew each other (though he clearly remembered) and pretended she wanted to keep it a mystery.
I realize that it probably wasn’t Joe’s choice to try and keep Michelle in the dark. He was almost certainly instructed not to say anything right away. But why must we maintain this false suspense? Why couldn’t he have just come right out with the fact that Michelle knew him because she had slid into his DMs?
The situation was interesting enough without the manufactured suspense! Let it happen naturally.
The Bachelorette Season 18 premiere: Best moment: Rick’s room service cart
There were many entertaining limo entrances, but one stood out as the best. A room service cart was placed in front of Michelle and she lifted the lid of a plate only to find the seemingly disembodied head of Rick as the main course.
Check out his entrance above!
The funniest part of the room service cart was how seriously both Michelle and Rick took this. Rick delivered so many specific puns. I particularly liked how Rick had to be wheeled around all night and was at the mercy of other people feeding him drinks.
Tayshia even asked Kaitlyn, “have you ever seen such a clever entrance before?” I don’t think I have!
Well-played, Rick. If you want to impress Michelle Young, you’ve got to pull out all the stops!
This is going to be a great season!
