The Bachelorette Season 17
(ABC/Craig Sjodin) /

The Bachelorette Season 17 finale filled the Greg-sized void we (and by the looks of it, Katie Thurston too) have been feeling for the past week. This episode had fewer cringe-worthy moments compared to the ones that came before, but Katie’s heated argument with Greg was probably the longest I have cringed during this entire season.

Rose Lovers, for the last time, here’s a recap of all the cringe-worthy moments from The Bachelorette Season 17 finale!

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 10: Moment #1: The boys react to Greg’s farewell

My favorite thing about The Bachelorette is a dramatic exit–but do you know what’s even better? The fake look of shock/surprise on the faces of remaining contestants when they’re informed that a frontrunner has eliminated themselves. In this case, Kaitlyn and Tayshia shared with Justin Glaze and Blake Moynes that Greg Grippo and his Sad Resting Face™ had returned home.

Now, literally *anybody* with feelings for a woman dating three dudes would be excited that the competition had grown lesser days before they’re expected to go down on one knee. But Blake and Justin’s attempts at looking surprised were just priceless. It has been 17 seasons boys. You don’t have to pretend to be distraught. Scream a little. Break into applause. Literally anything, I beg you!

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 10: Moment #2: Aunt Lindsey meets Blake

If I could describe Blake meeting his future family in one sentence, I’d say that–Katie’s family did not pass the vibe check. Katie’s mother Rhonda Lee was kind and greeted Blake affectionately, but when it was time for aunt Lindsey to meet him, she was cold, aloof, and grilled him like steak on a barbecue.

Lindsey interrogated Blake about his job, the logistics of his travels to work at a non-profit in South Africa among other things. When Blake expressed he came on the season for Katie because he’s “the exact same way,” Lindsey slammed back. “Meaning… you too have a vibrator?” The whole conversation was pretty jarring….and reminded me of Peter Weber’s mom Barb.

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 10: Moment #3: Burning Of The Zozobra

Aunt Lindsey grilled Blake so hard that Katie had to take him to an energy healer…where they burned a Zozobra (a giant marionette effigy that is 50 feet high). Blake and Katie wrote down their fears and insecurities on a piece of paper, stuffed them inside the statue, and set it on fire.

While the Zozobra burned in the background, Katie and Blake kissed, and the Zozobra literally stared at them with glowing red eyes. I don’t know about you, but it didn’t look very energy-healing-like to me.

But they got engaged later, so I guess their energy healed somehow after all.
