Does Greg self-eliminate?, The Bachelorette Season 17
ABC/Craig Sjodin

One self-elimination rattles The Bachelorette Season 17 to its core.

Oh, boy. The self-elimination on The Bachelorette Season 17 that many predicted (and the previews virtually gave away) finally happened last night when contestant Greg Grippo removed himself from the running for Katie Thurston’s heart.

Katie Thurston also “visited” Justin and Blake’s hometowns, both of which contained some humorous and heartwarming moments. However, both were overshadowed by the dark cloud that is Greg.

Now, let’s dive into the worst moment from this week’s episode of The Bachelorette Season 17!

The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 9: Worst moment: Greg. Just Greg.

Let’s get this out of the way–Greg’s self-elimination was the worst moment all season.

From a purely drama-focused perspective, Katie’s frontrunner eliminating himself could have been good television. However, I can’t even say that, because Greg’s reason for leaving was based on so little…well, reason!

I have seen every season of The Bachelorette, and I don’t think I’ve ever had such a hard time watching a conversation as I did the final one between Katie and Greg. I shouldn’t even call it a conversation because it genuinely felt like Greg came into the room already wanting to leave and just had a conversation with himself…to punish Katie for what he perceived to be an underwhelming reaction to his love confession.

Greg finally says: “All I know is I deserve more than what I’ve been given on your side…I’m done here.”

MORE?? I sincerely have to wonder if Greg has ever seen this show. He has been given more reassurance and affirmation, frankly, than I’ve ever seen a contestant get on this show (the one exception being Dale).

Just watching Katie attempt to reassure him and apologize time and time again was so painful. Nothing was enough for him!!

AHH. I’m writing this to the tune of the angry and ominous music that was playing as Greg left, and it’s really working me into a frenzy!

If you can handle watching Katie beg a non-reciprocal Greg to stay, literally beg on her knees, watch the end portion of this ordeal below!

The only good thing to come out of this was the photo montage at the end of the episode. I chose to see it as intentionally humorous and therefore was able to at least have a laugh! RIP Greg.
