The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 2: Worst moment: Cody is sent home

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a contestant sent home so quickly after initial gossip is planted.

As we saw, this whole debacle started when Katie claimed they had all noticed tension between Aaron and Cody on the mud wrestling date. I didn’t notice much visible tension at all, which tells me that Katie, Kaitlyn, and Tayshia’s “observations” were most likely nonexistent and they were instead told about the drama by producers were instructed to ask the men about it.

What ensued was just so contrived and unnecessary. Katie asked Aaron to talk about why he doesn’t like Cody, Aaron said a few vague statements about “malicious” social media behavior, Cody told Katie that wasn’t true, and Katie then sent Cody home. It all happened so fast!

The main beef I had with this decision is that Katie told Cody they “didn’t have trust” and it was too early to feel that way. But how could they have trust so early on? She doesn’t know either of these men. Doesn’t trust grow with time? Couldn’t she have sat back and observed the two men over a couple of weeks to make her decision? Or if necessary, send them both home?

Goodbye, Cody! Hope to see you in Paradise!

Furthermore, this signals something about where the show is headed: what happened to just letting drama unfold naturally? A bunch of men are cooped up in a mansion together, all pursuing the same woman…real drama is bound to happen, especially with some producer prodding. Why does the show need to go out of their way to drag up vague rivalries that happened off the show? We want to see what happens on the show so we can form our own opinions!

Next. The Bachelorette Season 17, Episode 2 recap: The drama starts early. dark

Sigh. Here’s hoping some visible, in-house drama will happen soon.
