The Bachelor franchise is a world that won’t stop growing, whether or not we want it to. The flagship series has also inspired The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor Pad, The Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart, and The Bachelor Winter Games, and currently has a senior citizen version in the works.
Now it appears that it intends to potentially add more according to an exclusive report by Deadline. In an attempt to go digital, Disney has been mulling over plans to bring original spinoffs to Hulu’s streaming service. Side note: Disney owns ABC and Hulu, hence why they’re calling the shots.
The Bachelor creator Rob Mills recently got a promotion and is now the EVP (Executive Vice President) of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment for Walt Disney Television. With this new position, he’s in charge of unscripted television for Hulu, and according to him, Disney is pretty serious about bringing Bachelor spinoffs to Hulu.
"Hulu is an exciting possibility. You can certainly experiment with all sorts of different long-form Bachelor programming. You’re not hamstrung by running time or even standards. It’s definitely exciting. I think it’s early, but it’s certainly not something that we’re not thinking of."
Okay, Rob Mills, we see you and hear you–and we’re here for it.
Updates on The Bachelor senior citizen spinoff
Yes, that’s right, folks! The senior citizen spinoff is still very much happening, and we have some updates on that front, thanks to Mills. Unfortunately, it’s not related to when filming will start or when it could potentially premiere, but any update is fine with us.
Pre-COVID and during Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor, a casting call went up looking for the “Grumpiest Old Men” and the “Goldenest Girls” over the age of 65. Apparently, the casting has been in full swing and Mills has some pretty hilarious stories from it. One story, in particular, is about a woman who claimed that she once slept with a former President of the United States. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that this spinoff is going to be their best one yet?
Mills also went on to say that, “These people have great stories to tell. That feels that’s a home run idea if we get it right.” Honestly, it’s probably their best idea yet.
The Bachelor franchise 2021 schedule
Even though we’re about four months into the year, this is going to be a busy year for the franchise–two seasons of The Bachelorette and the return of Bachelor in Paradise. Up first is Katie Thurston’s season, who will be embarking on the journey to find love after being friend-zoned by Matt James.
Following Katie’s season, it’ll be Bachelor in Paradise (although, ABC has not yet confirmed this as of yet) during the summer and then we’ll get Michelle Young’s season (also from James’ season) to end the year. And then my assumption would be that starting January 2022, we’ll get a new season of The Bachelor. At this rate, we’re going to be getting shows from the franchise year-round! The verdict is still out on who will be hosting all of this given host Chris Harrison’s recent controversy.
The next few months are certainly going to be jam-packed with drama, love, and who knows what else–but we can’t wait to see it all unfold!
