Last night’s episode of The Bachelor Season 25 was the finale of Matt James’ season. Matt’s mom and brother, John, joined him to meet Michelle and Rachael. Michelle chatted with the family first, and both Matt’s mom and John commented on how animated and happy Matt seemed around her. Michelle was extremely joyful around his family too.

Rachael seemed a bit more serious when she met Matt’s family. John asked her how many serious relationships she had been in and what qualities she liked in Matt. Rachael lit up when she talked about Matt. His mom had a great conversation with Rachael too.

But Matt’s mood changed considerably after hearing his mom said he didn’t need to end his time engaged if he wasn’t ready. Matt spoke with Chris Harrison and expressed his doubts.

He decided to continue the week and had a date with Michelle first. Matt and Michelle spent the day repelling off the Nemacolin hotel and then had a serious chat that evening. After Michelle gifted him a custom jersey, Matt shared his doubts, which brought her to tears.

The Bachelor Season 25 addresses drama and controversy in the After the Final Rose special

Matt was devastated after saying goodbye to Michelle. Then the next day, he canceled his date with Rachael, which hurt her significantly. Matt still met with Neil Lane and picked out a ring. But he didn’t sound confident in proposing to Rachael.

Matt asked Rachael to meet him at the lake the following morning. His note promised to give her answers. Matt said he wasn’t ready for a proposal but that he wanted to continue dating Rachael. She gladly accepted, and they were both thrilled. They rode off in a horse-drawn carriage before the After the Finale Rose segment started.

Emmanuel Acho hosted the after-show. His first guest was Michelle, who was upset that Matt didn’t let her have closure. Acho asked Michelle how she felt about the pictures of Rachael’s Antebellum party pictures. She expressed her concerns about the images and said there was a lot of learning to do still. Michelle received her much-needed closure after speaking with Matt for the first time after leaving the show.

Rachael had the stage next after Matt stated they were no longer together. Rachael talked about the Antebellum party, and they discussed why it was problematic. Matt explained why he couldn’t be in a relationship with Rachael anymore after seeing the pictures. They had a difficult conversation that didn’t end in a loving embrace.

Luckily, the night took a more positive turn with a shocking revelation about The Bachelorette.

It was a very emotional night but the episode ended on a happy note. They announced not one but two new Bachelorettes! Both Katie and Michelle are getting individual seasons of The Bachelorette–and we can’t wait for it!

That’s a wrap on The Bachelor Season 25!
