We have officially seen the conclusion of The Bachelor season 25, and fans of the long-running franchise now know who won Matt James’ heart in the end. This season was certainly a whirlwind of ups and downs, filled with unnecessary drama, controversy off-screen, and fortunately a few really great women who are now on our radar. I, for one, absolutely cannot wait to see Michelle Young on my TV screen again!

Although those who keep up with

pretty much knew the outcome of the finale, it was still interesting to watch it all unfold. So let’s get into what happened, and who ultimately went home.

What happened on The Bachelor tonight?

To recap tonight’s finale, the episode began with Matt James introducing his final two contestants, Michelle Young and Rachael Kirkconnell, to his mom and brother. His family seemed to love both women, but Matt’s mom cast doubt on the possibility that he was truly ready to get engaged. During a heart to heart with Chris Harrison, Matt admitted that he was “starting to pump the brakes” on committing to an engagement.

Getting down on one knee and popping the question after just weeks of knowing someone is obviously drastic, but as all know, that’s how the show goes. There has been the occasional instance where the franchise lead did not get engaged in the finale but instead went on to date their final contestant. Unfortunately, none of those relationships have lasted, however.

In the end, Matt decided it would be a better decision to leave the show in a relationship, but not engaged.

Who won The Bachelor season 25?

Unfortunately for fans of Michelle Young (me included!), she went home in The Bachelor season 25 finale. During their one-on-one date, Matt explained to Michelle that he had doubts about their relationship, stating that he could not get there with her in the end.

That means, of course, that Rachael Kirkconnell is the winner. It was painful to watch knowing about Rachael’s racist behavior, and we’re sure it was even harder for Matt to watch along tonight.

Matt and Rachael left the show together, but did not get engaged. During the After the Final Rose special, we learned that the two broke up after the photos of Rachael at an Antebellum plantation party in 2018 surfaced. You could tell Matt was seriously heartbroken on stage speaking to host Emmanuel Acho, and while speaking to Rachael.

All in all, this season was sadly overshadowed by drama onscreen and controversy offscreen, and I really believe that Matt James deserved better!
