The Bachelor Season 25, Episode 10: Worst moment: Father/son talk

Over the years, we’ve experienced many moments on The Bachelor that almost seem too private for us to watch. Sex talks, tears, general awkwardness. But Matt James‘ confrontation/talk with his father on this week’s episode of The Bachelor Season 25, although a long time coming, really took the cake in the realm of “does this really need to be shown on national television?”

This moment really reminded me of the infamous confrontation between Dean Unglert and his father on Rachel’s season of The Bachelorette.

On the one hand, it’s valuable for Matt to want to talk things out with his father. It’s tempting to believe the show really wanted that for him and flew his father out to Pennsylvania for the sake of mending the relationship. However, the way it came across to me was almost exploitative.

The moment when Matt confronted his father felt so uncomfortable and personal that I felt as if I shouldn’t be watching. His dad just seemed so caught off guard and reluctant to discuss it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Matt was able to speak his mind, but I just don’t think a national television show, surrounded by cameras, was the best setting for this.

Here’s hoping this super awkward moment was helpful in the long run!
