The Bachelor Season 25, Episode 8: Worst moment: Rachael’s hometown

In an ordinary season, Rachael’s hometown would have been great, and very moving (including the skydiving injury)—she’s an obvious frontrunner, has good chemistry with Matt James, and her family seems very likable! However, as each season of The Bachelor unfolds, what we watch is more and more affected by what comes out in the public eye during the season.

When a hailstorm of this magnitude surrounds a contestant, it’s impossible to watch them in any kind of normal way onscreen. I found myself almost impatiently waiting for the family to address the situation before I remembered that none of them even knew about it at that time!

It’s strange—we almost experience two stories at once when we watch a season these days: the filmed and edited love story, and the real-time, present-day story unfolding in the world before us. It’s fascinating, but unfortunately didn’t do this hometown any favors because I found it impossible to focus and just found myself wanting time to fast forward so we could see that “real life” conversation about all the controversy!

Guess we’ll all just have to wait for After the Final Rose!

Rant over!

All rants aside, this was a pretty great episode of The Bachelor!
