If you’re surprised that Mike Johnson never became the Bachelor, you’re not the only one. The fan-favorite from Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette certainly seems to have what it takes to become the lead, and yet he hasn’t. More than once, however, he’s been in the running.

Given his undeniable Bachelor potential, fans have been wondering if Mike Johnson is actually the one who turned down the show and not the other way around.

Did Mike Johnson say no to becoming the Bachelor?

In short, no. When Mike wanted to be the Bachelor the first time around, Peter Weber from Hannah B.’s season was chosen over him for season 24. More recently, Mike lost out to Matt James for season 25. So why hasn’t he been chosen yet? He definitely seems like a good fit, doesn’t he? After being continuously eyed by producers, Mike continues to be a popular Bachelor Nation member we all love to root for, thanks in part to his stint on the popular spinoff Bachelor in Paradise, along with his positive social media presence.

According to Mike, your guess is as good as his on why he hasn’t been selected to take the lead. Noted in Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the 33-year-old has said he wishes he knew the answer. Of not being chosen, he’s admitted, “I wish I knew. I really do. I was never given a reason, ever. I don’t know. I just know that they chose who they chose. I really do wish I knew more.”

He’s certainly not alone in that wish. Still, Mike does appear to be moving on pretty well these days. From the looks of it, he has some exciting prospects on the horizon. In an interview with Variety, Mike admitted that while The Bachelor franchise was a significant part of his life, it’s certainly not his whole life.

Mike caught up with Accept This Rose earlier this year, where he dished about writing his first book, Making The Love You Want, and how important self-love and having a positive attitude is. If that’s not Bachelor material, I don’t know what is!

Having made this major accomplishment in writing his book, Mike believes there’s a lot to look forward to, and in part that’s thanks to his time on the show–even if his future doesn’t include handing out any roses. Still, let’s not rule out Mike Johnson becoming a future Bachelor just yet. If we’ve learned anything from 2020, it’s that you never know what can happen next.
