3. Jason Mesnick: Season 13
The adorable single father who was first introduced to Bachelor Nation during DeAnna Pappas’ season of The Bachelorette as a contestant, was given another shot at love when he became the lead in season 13.
After having his heart broken, he dared to give love another shot, and we’re extremely glad he did, for multiple reasons. If you watched his season or got a recap of it during The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever then you know he truly did have one of the most dramatic endings ever.
In his season finale, Mesnick made the decision to send contestant Molly Malaney home. But it wasn’t until after she actually left that the grief hit him like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It was like he had a piece of his heart torn away from him, and it resulted in one of the most iconic scenes in Bachelor Nation history.
As Jason bawled his eyes out while standing on the balcony, it became clear that he had made the wrong decision in sending Molly home and keeping Melissa Rycroft around. And what strikes most of us as odd is that despite his broken heart, he still proposed to Melissa, knowing it wasn’t what he truly wanted.
By the time the season’s After The Final Rose special came around, Jason had enough of lying to himself and broke up with Melissa on live television. It was quite a horrible thing to witness, and seeing Melissa’s heart break was not exactly the type of thing you ever want to see happen to someone.
But it looks like all that drama and heartbreak and doubt in Mesnick’s mind turned out to have some validity. Molly and Jason’s love story is still going strong to this day. They have an adorable little family of four, with their daughter together and Jason’s son from his first marriage, Ty, who was only five years old during his season.
Moral of the story? Sometimes you just have to follow your heart, everything else be damned!
