Matt James is about to become ABC’s latest Bachelor, but what exactly does Matt James do for a living when he’s not winning America’s heart as The Bachelor?

This January, Matt James will officially join the Bachelor Nation family as the new face of The Bachelor — though his journey isn’t quite what we’ve come to expect for the long-running ABC series.

As any long-time Bachelor fan knows, each season’s new Bachelor lead is typically a familiar face from a past season of The Bachelorette with ABC selecting a fan-favorite bachelor to get a second chance at finding love. However, 2020 has not been a typical year and so ABC decided to go in a different route in casting its latest Bachelor pulling a fresh face in Matt James.

Since Matt has not appeared on a Bachelor Nation show such as The Bachelorette or Bachelor in Paradise, audiences haven’t quite had the chance to get to know Matt in the way we’re typically able to get to know a Bachelor or Bachelorette. Because of this, there are a lot of unknowns about Matt including what exactly does for a living which is where we come in.

What did Matt James do before The Bachelor?

When he’s not searching for love as The Bachelor, Matt James has quite a respectable career as a real estate broker, entrepreneur, and community organization founder. On the community outreach side of things, Matt is the founder of ABC Food Tours which aims to introduce kids from lower-income communities in New York City to different types of food and healthy-living activities.

Prior to entering the business world, Matt also made a run at pursuing a professional football career after playing football throughout college. Matt made it close to achieving this dream with an invite to join the Carolina Panthers rookie camp in 2015. While the Panthers would make it to the Super Bowl that season, Matt was not part of the journey having never made it to the official team roster.
