The Bachelorette: Here’s why Season 16 could be the most important ever
2020 has had its fair share of struggles for everyone but this season of The Bachelorette shining light on real-world issues is nothing like we have ever seen before.
It comes without much knowledge that 2020 has had a fair share of ups and downs, and while The Bachelorette has normalized drama in the past, this season is normalizing real-world issues shared by the men.
This season has been a whirlwind of emotions and we’ve experienced these men having some very real and raw conversations. Many of which viewers are able to relate to, even more so in the world we live in today. We’ve experienced some of these very raw and emotional conversations throughout the season, some of which have been so relatable that it became uneasy to watch.
When Ivan initiated a conversation that was directly correlated with the Black Lives Matter movement and police brutality that has garnered much-needed attention this year, it became a household conversation in what has been trying times. Ivan and Tayshia reflected on the events of unity and how it helped change and define who they have become as individuals. Shining light about their difficult upbringings was an example for viewers at home to relate to and initiate much-needed family conversations.
We’ve seen other men initiate difficult conversations including Ben, who opened up about his struggles with his eating disorder that challenged him throughout his life. Ben had struggled with this disorder for several years before his sister, the only one who knew about his struggles, helped him regain his confidence to win his battle. His story was so raw and inspiring that it has likely changed the lives of some viewers who are battling the same disorder on a daily basis.
Other men like Zac and Riley have also opened up about their struggles and Zac’s story highlighted how he overcame his battle with drugs and alcohol at a young age. Zac became addicted to pain killers following an emergency brain tumor surgery he had at the age of 23 and quickly after began to drink and party to soothe his addiction. Zac opened up to Tayshia about his difficult past which is a very relatable and inspiring story for viewers at home.
The Bachelorette this season has highlighted some very important topics and has proven to be more than a drama-filled reality show. The producers really deserve a lot of credit for including these topics that can be used as learning moments for everyone watching at home who may be battling the same demons on a daily basis.
Kudos to The Bachelorette for stepping away from drama every once in a while to focus on important topics.
