Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, The Bachelorette Season 13, Episode 2

I can honestly admit I know nothing about sports, but even I recognized Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he appeared on Rachel Lindsay’s season of The Bachelorette. The legendary NBA player didn’t think too highly of the show, having penned a critique in The Hollywood Reporter that slammed Bachelor Nation for lacking diversity and “killing romance in America.” How did ABC respond? By inviting him to guest-star on the season of the first Black Bachelorette.

The date he appeared on, in which the suitors played – what else? – a basketball game, wasn’t too groundbreaking. But it was still memorable to see a Bachelor Nation critic make an appearance and have a real, sincere conversation with Rachel, who he clearly admired. So, did the experience change Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s mind about the show? Not quite – he had harsh words for the season that followed, The Bachelor Season 22. I understand, Mr. Abdul-Jabbar. Nobody else liked Arie, either.

The Backstreet Boys, The Bachelor Season 21, Episode 3

When the contestants on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor opened a group-date card that simply read “Everybody!” they were clearly stumped. But their confusion soon turned into shrieks of excitement as the Backstreet Boys walked through the door.

This was truly one of my favorite dates ever. I was a literal baby at the height of BSB’s fame, but as a recovering Directioner, I knew exactly how the women felt as they freaked out over the band’s mere presence. Between the swoon-worthy acapella rendition of “I Want it That Way” and the juicy drama that unfolded as the women competed for a private serenade with Nick, this celebrity cameo really delivered.
