The Bachelorette Season 16, Episode 3: Best moment #1: The roast

I’m not sure I agree with Clare that this date was “beyond exciting,” but I’m choosing it as one of the best moments because at least it felt a bit more like the normal Bachelorette fare, which was oddly comforting. We even had a celebrity appearance by Margaret Cho, who our resident Korean-American Joe especially appreciated! Knowing she had to quarantine to be on the show made me all the more thankful for her appearance.

Obviously, the narrative of this date revolved around the men’s focus on Dale, but there was more to it than that! No roast on this show has ever been super hilarious, but at least it allows us to get a sense of how these men feel about each other. The Bachelorette does not and never has shown enough of the friendships between the contestants, so times like this are a fun window into that aspect of the show.

I will admit to being slightly disappointed the men did not roast Clare (I can only imagine what they would say) but after the infamous Season 7 roast of Ashley Hebert, I understand the show was reluctant to go there, especially with someone as sensitive as our current lead. Also, I guess Clare was already roasted enough by Yosef this week.

I will disagree with Margaret Cho on one thing—Bennett is not scary! He is amazing!
