The Bachelorette Season 16, Episode 3: Worst Moment #2: The non-kiss

For all the dramatic moments we’ve seen on this show, there are some that are just impossible to watch. We all saw what happened: after a very awkward daytime portion of Clare and Zach’s avocado-fueled one-on-one date, Clare leaned in for a kiss and Zach did not respond in a desirable fashion.

Now, from what I saw, Zach was trying to prolong the moment and let Clare do her thing. Since Clare leaned in so far and so suddenly, he probably figured she was just taking control. I understand how Clare felt he didn’t want to kiss her back, but LET US NOT FORGET her kiss with Dale after he got the first impression rose. See below:

Not every kiss, especially a first kiss in front of cameras, has to be super in sync. If it’s not, it’s not necessarily an offense on either person. As you can see above, Dale actually leans away from Clare, saying, “I’m so nervous.” This was super cute and was taken as such by Clare. Yet when young Zachary pauses, not even leaning away, it is the worst offense imaginable.

Now, obviously, Zach’s behavior of grabbing Clare’s neck afterward was super uncomfortable, went too far, and obviously triggered Clare. I read that as Zach’s panic at being misunderstood, but he definitely should have been less grabby! Farewell, Zach. I hope you enjoyed your sendoff by Chris Harrison.
