The Bachelorette Season 16, Episode 3: Worst Moment #1: The non-rose

The absolute worst moment of the night, in my opinion, was Clare not giving out the second group date rose.  After interrogating the men all night about their roasts on Dale (on a date during which they were required to write and perform a roast) she simply said, “I didn’t get what I needed.”

First of all, this statement is entirely self-focused and deflects all blame. Second of all, it’s hard to get what you need from the men when a ton of time is spent discussing their roommate! I get that Clare and the men probably conversed about things other than Dale, and production focused on the Dale of it all in order to further the narrative, but there sure was a lot of footage on this topic choose from!

The one good thing about this date was that we got some nice face time with the amazing Bennett, who valiantly tried to steer the conversation away from Dale. No success, but it was nice to actually have him on camera.

Clare goes on to award the rose to herself! That move would be funny and kind of empowering if she had spent the whole evening being mistreated by the men, but that just wasn’t the case.

It’s just hard to believe Clare really doesn’t see how awful this move makes the men feel. The contestant experience already involves so much waiting around, and to not even have a semblance of affirmation that their time was valuable at the end of the night just makes it so much worse.
