The Bachelorette Season 16, Episode 2: Worst moment #3: Strip dodgeball

This strip dodgeball game was a little bit over the top. The Bachelorette and its counterpart are no strangers to strip games, lingerie pillow fights, and the like, but this one felt less funny and more pointlessly exploitative.

Perhaps this was because there were no fans so there was no “show” to put on, making the humor factor of stripping null and void. Perhaps it was because none of the men stripping really looked like they were having much fun. It was probably mostly due to the fact that the men were made to walk back to their house naked and sit around with the other men naked and keep doing interviews naked. It was just too much!

Having said that, I do not blame Clare for this. I’m sure it was not actually her idea to suddenly decide to make the men strip. I also get that the show needs some sort of gimmick for every date. However, know where to draw the line!

The Bachelorette Season 16, Episode 2: Best moment #2: Blake gets a rose

I felt so bad for Blake this week. After being part of the naked, losing dodgeball team, Blake “decided” to go crash the group date. I can just hear the producers saying to him, “Clare really likes a man to go out of his way to hang out with her, just look at what she got upset about on the last group date! Maybe you should go show her how much you like her!”

Yes, it is taboo to crash a group date after being sent back to the house. However, I found the other men’s reactions to Blake far too harsh, especially considering it 100% wasn’t solely his idea to do it. One of the men actually said to Blake, “Didn’t you lose?” as if the dodgeball game was a serious, life or death competition.

But it didn’t stop there! The men somehow thought it would be an amazing idea to go confront Blake as a group, in front of Clare, as if that would prove that Blake was the one being a “sore loser.” I admit this may have been producer influenced as well, but it was just so uncomfortable to watch.

This is sounding like a worst moment, but it’s actually leading to a best! Clare ended up giving Blake his own personal rose before the rose ceremony and reassuring him that though she didn’t want it to be an everyday thing, his coming to the group date was actually a move she approved of. This was a nice moment in an otherwise very hard to watch (though super entertaining) episode!

If this is any indication of what we can expect, we can all look forward to a very exciting season of The Bachelorette!
