The Bachelorette Season 16: Best and worst moments of episode 1

The Bachelorette Season 16 Best Moment #1: Blake Breaks the Rules
Ah, Bearded Blake. Provider of comfort via Instagram DM’s. Clare and Blake’s conversation was a super sweet moment, an antidote to the annoyance that was the Yosef and Tyler C. drama. Clare sat Blake down and opened up to him about how hard it was waiting months for the show to air, and brought up that Blake had messaged her at one point during that time. Her mom had just fallen and broken her nose, and Blake messaged her to tell her he was thinking about her!
It seemed at first like Clare was going to reprimand Blake for breaking the rules and reaching out to her, but it ended up being quite the contrary! Clare was extremely touched that Blake would risk not coming on the show just so he could reach out and comfort her, and mentioned he was the only man who did so. Best of all, Blake was rewarded with a coveted Night One kiss! You go, Blake.
The Bachelorette Season 16 Best Moment #2: The COVID Chronicles
The Bachelorette can often feel like an otherworldly experience full of beautiful influencers and unattainable romance, but last night, we were able to see the contestants go through something we can all relate to—the pandemic. It was strangely comforting to see each of them wearing masks on the plane and in the car, commenting on what a relief it was to take them off when they got to their rooms. We can all relate!
Having the men film vlog-style quarantine diaries was a great choice. We all know what it’s like at this point to feel locked up in our houses, and getting to see the men in their quarantine environment was a nice, human touch to the proceedings. We even got to see one of the men getting tested for the virus, and it was hilarious. He seemed super confused and hearing the nurse instruct him in a slow, patient voice while he stood against a wall and panicked just cracked me up for some reason.
All the men seemed genuinely traumatized after their tests, something I’m sure anyone who has received one can relate to! All in all, it was nice to see the show remember its place in the larger scheme of things and let viewers in on the extra behind-the-scenes hurdles of this season!
I genuinely can’t wait for this season—it could very well be the most dramatic ever!
