The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever is taking it all the way back to March 2002.

The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever is all set to return to the very first season of The Bachelor. Actually, the very first series in this franchise, come to think of it. The year was 2002 and Alex Michel was ready to find the love of his life in a new and exciting way.

Back then, the series had no precedent, format, or understanding as to how things would eventually progress. But one thing is for sure, Chris Harrison was killing it with his oversized suit game.

But in all seriousness, The Bachelor kickstarted an era of reality dating shows that would follow in its stead, changing the game of love forever. It’s crazy to think how many relationships, marriages, and heartbreaking stories have branched off as a result of this very first season.

The year was 2002…

Folks first sat down on March 25, 2002 to check out this new and unusual way of finding love. It wasn’t clear how things would play out but very soon the world got to know of rose ceremonies, Fantasy Suite dates, and everything in between with Alex Michel bravely taking the lead. Who could have known the amount of drama that would unfold as a result!

Who is Alex Michel?

The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever will remind us that Alex Michel is a businessman who is a graduate of both Stanford and Harvard University. Our boy was the cream of the crop when it came to accomplishments. But when it came to personality, well, let’s just say he could have used some help.

It was all very cut and dry, and anti-climactic. Maybe I can say that now after seeing all sorts of Bachelors and Bachelorette grace our television screens, but I don’t know this guy was pretty uneventful.

What should have been a proposal resulted in Alex just asking contestant Amanda Marsh to be his girlfriend. Yes, folks basically watched the entire season for…that. A few months after dating, the couple ended up splitting.

Alex has opted to stay out of the Bachelor Nation limelight over the years, and currently lives in Washington D.C. as a media industry executive. And as far as relationship status goes, it appears he is single.

What made Season 1 so entertaining and real?

I hope that The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever goes into this a little bit during the look back. One of the things we have to remember is that it was 2002 and there wasn’t much incentive for being on this show. Not like how things are today where people flock to Bachelor Nation shows for their claim to fame. At the very least, it gives them a step up as a social media influencer.

But back during the very first season, there wasn’t all of that, which means we can assume the intentions were very different. In fact, all the women were probably truly there to find love with no other motives. The show was likely viewed as a place where you really could potentially meet your better half.

Unlike today, after being a contestant or lead, you sort of faded away in the eyes of the world. We don’t know much at all about Alex Michel today versus someone like Colton Underwood whose life is on social media.

Of course, that isn’t always the case as the very first Bachelorette, Trista Sutter (then Rehn) and her husband, Ryan Sutter became the face of the franchise as the very first couple. The Bachelor: Greatest Seasons Ever will look back on her season as well, and will remind us of the beautiful love story between her and Ryan to whom she is still married to today with two kids.

I’m excited about this look back at the very first season of The Bachelor because it’s going to really help us understand the foundation this franchise was built off of. It’ll be hilarious as heck to travel back in time 18 years–to a world where this show was shiny and new.

Oh, and Chris Harrison’s oversized suits. Let’s not forget about that.

Next. The Bachelorette Season 16: Clare Crawley’s season could change the franchise forever. dark

Can’t wait to see Chris Harrison’s oversized suits!
