The Bachelor season 11: Brad Womack chooses…nobody

At the end of The Bachelor season 11, we were all set to see southern charmer Brad Womack ride off into the sunset with either DeAnna Pappas or Jenni Croft. Brad sent Jenni home in tears, and then there was one.

Brad started off his speech to DeAnna by telling her he sent Jenni home and paused to really allow the hope to sink in.  However, as the fans at home and DeAnna herself prepared for Brad’s proposal, he walked off into the rose garden. Crickets. It was the silence heard around the world (or at least all of Bachelor Nation). Brad reluctantly returned, looked at DeAnna, and said, “I can’t look you in your eye and tell you I love you.”

"I have to tell you goodbye."

A whole season that resulted in nothing! Fans were in shock. What did we just watch? Did producers know he was going to do this? How could not one of the girls on the season be a suitable match for this seemingly easy to please southern gentleman?

Say what you want about Brad Womack, but he was the first lead to really challenge the much-vaunted notion that the show is the perfect tool for finding love. Of course, the show later spun this idea and made it about Brad needing therapy in order to find love (I have to admit, I really enjoyed watching his therapy sessions) but it was still a worthy statement. It also led to Brad being the first and only Bachelor to get a second chance!
