The Bachelor: Senior citizens wanted for the untitled spinoff
By Ariba Bhuvad
The Bachelor franchise is asking seniors looking for love to apply for their untitled spinoffâŠ
The Bachelor is expanding its franchise to now include the 65+ demographic. Yes, that you read that right. During this weekâs episode, we were privy to the usual casting call for applicants, but this time around, it said seniors.
None of us were expecting it, but once it was out there, I think a lot of Bachelor Nation was confused, excited, and feeling an assortment of emotions over the prospect of such a show. Over the last two decades, weâve seen these shows bring together couples, tear apart couples, and everything in between.
But are we, Bachelor Nation, ready to see this translated into the 65+ community. I mean, I have so many questions. Iâm all for the 65+ singles community finding love, but itâs certainly something weâve never seen done before on reality television.
Itâs certainly become the talk of the Twitterverse ever since the casting call was first shown. Even The View is talking about itâŠ
Yikes, yes we never want to hear those words. But I can only imagine how excited the singles in the 65+ community are. Everyone deserves a chance at love, no matter how old you are. And if you canât wrap your head around thatâwatch Netflixâs Grace and Frankie for reference.
Raise your hand if youâd like to see Betty White replace Chris Harrison as the host. Iâd so be on board for that. Shall we start a petition demanding this?
As Iâve already mentioned, the Internet is over the moon excited about a seniors version of The Bachelor. People are making grandma and grandpa jokes, going as far as saying theyâll sign up their grandparents for a shot at love.
You have to admit, the idea is pretty stinking adorable. That is until we start seeing the trials and tribulations of their relationship problems on television. Itâs going to feel weird to do what we do while watching any of the current Bachelor Nation shows. You know what I mean, yelling at the television or shouting out curse words over a contestant that annoys us.
How are we supposed to that with people who remind us of our grandparents?
Whatever opinions people may have about the untitled series, I think itâs safe to assume we are all going to be tuning in when the series premieres. In fact, I think many of us are itching to learn more about it.
Host Chris Harrison spoke to Entertainment Tonightâs Lauren Zima (his girlfriend!) about the show for seniors, and what sparked the inspiration for it.
"Yeah, this is a knee jerk reaction to that. We thought instead of 20s, weâre going 60s and 70s."
A reaction to what you ask? Well, most contestants are on the current Bachelor Nation shows are extremely young, and often incredibly immature. Itâs a complaint that has been made time and time again, so it looks like the franchise is listening and giving fans the change theyâve been asking for.
So, will we get a senior Bachelor first or Bachelorette?
"A lot of it is still up in the air because this is in the gestation phase. And while weâre talking about 65 and older â I donât think thatâs set in stone either because we havenât⊠weâre just beginning the casting process, so weâll see what weâre about."
If you or someone you know is looking for love and are 65+ years and older, click here for the application. Who knows, you just might end up being the very first senior Bachelor or Bachelorette.
