The Bachelor franchise is asking seniors looking for love to apply for their untitled spinoff

The Bachelor is expanding its franchise to now include the 65+ demographic. Yes, that you read that right. During this week’s episode, we were privy to the usual casting call for applicants, but this time around, it said seniors.

None of us were expecting it, but once it was out there, I think a lot of Bachelor Nation was confused, excited, and feeling an assortment of emotions over the prospect of such a show. Over the last two decades, we’ve seen these shows bring together couples, tear apart couples, and everything in between.

But are we, Bachelor Nation, ready to see this translated into the 65+ community. I mean, I have so many questions. I’m all for the 65+ singles community finding love, but it’s certainly something we’ve never seen done before on reality television.

It’s certainly become the talk of the Twitterverse ever since the casting call was first shown. Even The View is talking about it

Yikes, yes we never want to hear those words. But I can only imagine how excited the singles in the 65+ community are. Everyone deserves a chance at love, no matter how old you are. And if you can’t wrap your head around that–watch Netflix’s Grace and Frankie for reference.

Raise your hand if you’d like to see Betty White replace Chris Harrison as the host. I’d so be on board for that. Shall we start a petition demanding this?

As I’ve already mentioned, the Internet is over the moon excited about a seniors version of The Bachelor. People are making grandma and grandpa jokes, going as far as saying they’ll sign up their grandparents for a shot at love.

You have to admit, the idea is pretty stinking adorable. That is until we start seeing the trials and tribulations of their relationship problems on television. It’s going to feel weird to do what we do while watching any of the current Bachelor Nation shows. You know what I mean, yelling at the television or shouting out curse words over a contestant that annoys us.

How are we supposed to that with people who remind us of our grandparents?

Whatever opinions people may have about the untitled series, I think it’s safe to assume we are all going to be tuning in when the series premieres. In fact, I think many of us are itching to learn more about it.

Host Chris Harrison spoke to Entertainment Tonight’s Lauren Zima (his girlfriend!) about the show for seniors, and what sparked the inspiration for it.

"Yeah, this is a knee jerk reaction to that. We thought instead of 20s, we’re going 60s and 70s."

A reaction to what you ask? Well, most contestants are on the current Bachelor Nation shows are extremely young, and often incredibly immature. It’s a complaint that has been made time and time again, so it looks like the franchise is listening and giving fans the change they’ve been asking for.

So, will we get a senior Bachelor first or Bachelorette?

"A lot of it is still up in the air because this is in the gestation phase. And while we’re talking about 65 and older — I don’t think that’s set in stone either because we haven’t
we’re just beginning the casting process, so we’ll see what we’re about."

If you or someone you know is looking for love and are 65+ years and older, click here for the application. Who knows, you just might end up being the very first senior Bachelor or Bachelorette.
