It’s a cold, chilly night but the Bachelor refuses to give up his jacket. And now we know why.

The Bachelor along with the other Bachelor Nation shows always tend to surprise us with the smallest things. In fact, they have so many do’s and don’ts that go along with being on the show that it’s hard to keep track.

But after this week’s episode, another “don’t” has come to light. If you recall, at the beginning of the episode, Peter is sitting on a bench (which is very oddly placed, by the way) with Madison as she tells him her truth. She’s clearly freezing and uncomfortable because of it–so why the heck isn’t he being a gentleman and giving her his jacket?

Well, because he can’t.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a producer from the show says the men are not allowed to. Usually, a jacket is always offered but…

"…[we] tell him not to, because it looks so damn silly. Rather than having shot after shot of the Bachelor talking to “a small woman draped in an enormous blazer, the show keeps a stock of pashminas on hand for any woman who wants one."

I mean, seriously? It’s not enough that they can’t eat the food during their dates? Now, this too?!

This is just one rule among a laundry list of them, but it seems awfully silly, doesn’t it? I can wrap my head around the fact that chewing creates noises that are hard to edit out, but if it’s an incredibly cold night or day out, the women just have to freeze? Not cool, Bachelor franchise, not cool at all.

But, hey, there is one thing that this clarification brings to Bachelor Nation. Chivalry is not dead and amongst the list of horrible decisions, Pilot Pete has made this season, being un-gentlemen like is not one of them (at least we hope not).

Speaking of which, we’re heading into the very final stretch of this season’s Bachelor and we’re all dying to know–what the heck is going to happen?! Honestly, after all the conversations and theorizing, I’m not sure many of us even care anymore.

I guess we’ll know the end soon enough.
