The Bachelor in Paradise history-making couple has called it quits.

Bachelor in Paradise season 6 was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. Many hearts were broken and many came together as they promised each other a lifetime of love. Of the three couples that came out of Bachelor in Paradise engaged, however, one has decided to call it quits.

Demi Burnett and Kristian Haggerty are no longer a couple, and I think Bachelor Nation is still trying to process the devastation from this news. Their romance, albeit whirlwind, made history for the Bachelor Nation franchise by being the first same-sex couple.

Many courtesies were given to the couple to accommodate their love on the most recent season of Bachelor in Paradise. Which is exactly why my heart aches at the thought of their breakup.

You might be asking yourself why this couple decided to part ways, and don’t worry, I’m doing the exact same thing. According to E! News, a source revealed that the relationship had been “extremely rocky” and that the couple had been really trying to make things work.

In fact, they were planning on moving in together in Los Angeles, something which never came to be. Perhaps a big reason for this split comes from the fact that the couple weren’t together much following Bachelor in Paradise. A long-distance relationship is grueling on anyone so I can see that being a big factor in this breakup.

Burnett took to Instagram to officially announce the split after speculation had already been brewing amongst Bachelor Nation. Side note: It must be so incredibly frustrating to have to announce your personal life like that, but it’s a choice they make, so I get it.

It’s uncertain what the future holds for Demi and Kristian, however, I will say one thing. Their history-making relationship really changed the course of the Bachelor Nation franchise. It was an inspiring, feel-good, adorable love and while it may be over, it will never be forgotten.
