Oh, what could have been! In a recent interview, Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott revealed that he turned down casting for The Bachelor three times.
Here in Bachelor Nation, we’ve all engaged in a little dream casting. Whether you have a celebrity we’d love to see step up as the Bachelor or a favorite contestant who would kill as Bachelorette, you’ve probably spent some time imagining what their season would be like or even launching a low-key Twitter campaign to support them. Perhaps a few fans of The Bachelor who also love some HGTV will be surprised to hear that one of their fave stars, Jonathan Scott, has turned down series casting more than a few times.
Scott is famously one half of the Property Brothers team. Along with his fraternal twin Drew, Jonathan Scott helps people to find and flip their dream houses. The series is a massive success and continues to this day.
In a recent issue of People magazine, Jonathan reveals that he has turned down The Bachelor a whopping three times (granted, one of these was the Canadian version of the show). His reasoning? The show doesn’t really mesh with his personality.
"It would literally be my nightmare to be put on display and dated out. It’s the opposite of anything I have ever wanted."
Jonathan Scott went on to say that, despite his hesitations, his friends continue to push the series on him. And we can’t say that we blame them! He’s successful, handsome and seems like he’s got a good head on his shoulders. We also like that, at age 41, he’d be an older lead for The Bachelor, which could give an interesting new dynamic to a series so often dominated by women who look like they’re barely out of high school. Bring on the older ladies! It’s our time!
Jonathan’s comments about turning down the show make us wonder who else may have been considered in years past. Khloe Kardashian famously faced off with series creator Mike Fleiss earlier this year when he floated the idea of having her play Bachelorette. They can’t be the only two celebs who have come close to handing out the roses.
What do you think, Bachelor Nation? Should Jonathan Scott reconsider and take the reins as Bachelor?
