Cam surprised us all last night when he interrupted a group date to speak with the Bachelorette. It was a bold move, but will it pay off?

Hey, you know what’s not cool? Interrupting one of the very first group dates of The Bachelorette in order to get a minute or two of extra time with the season lead.

We get it: it’s easy for contestants to feel sidelined, especially if they don’t get a date card early on. But Cam Ayala wasn’t willing to play by the rules. This week on The Bachelorette, he made a splash when he actually drove over to a group date he hadn’t been invited to in order to speak with Hannah Brown. It was a total power move. But did it pay off with our leading lady?

I think it’s important to note that the first words out of Hannah’s mouth when Cam showed up were actually an apology to the contestant she had been speaking  with. She looked super confused and, despite her gracious acceptance of Cam’s flowers, it was clear that she didn’t really know what to do.

The pair went on to have a short and sweet conversation, during which Hannah abstained from laying down the law with Cam. Still, something felt distinctly off. She kept smiling, but it looked pretty hollow.

It’s probably also worth noting that, despite Hannah’s basic on-screen reaction, the fan response to this aggressive move has been mostly outcry. Viewers of The Bachelorette immediately took to Twitter to complain about Cam’s power play.

Generally, fans seem to have a pretty good grasp on whether a contestant is overall “good” or “bad.” We can sometimes see things that the Bachelorette can’t, especially since the season leads don’t get the whole behind-the-scenes perspective. With fan outcry being this strong, it leads us to believe that even if Cam’s move went over okay with Hannah, it will ultimately tear him down.

Whether this be because the other men complain until she sends him home or because she one day puts two and two together and realizes that Cam is acting selfishly, we don’t know right now. The safe prediction, though, seems to definitely be that this will only hurt him. Cam thinks he’s being bold, but really he’s showing that he doesn’t care about other people.
