Kelly Ripa, Wanda Sykes trash The Bachelor as “disgusting,” “silly” TV
Apparently The Bachelor isn’t for everyone. Celebrities Kelly Ripa and Wanda Sykes trashed the show at the start of Hannah Brown’s season.
Um, excuse you? While all of us here are major fans of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette (why else would you be reading this), apparently a few major celebrities are now voicing their disapproval of the franchise. Comedian Wanda Sykes and longtime talkshow host Kelly Ripa are the latest big names to jump on the anti-Bachelor bandwagon.
Wanda Sykes voiced her opinion at the “Netflix is a Joke” FYSEE event in LA recently. Her criticisms seemed to largely come from her desire to see women behaving differently.
"It’s just annoying and also promotes bad behavior and it just makes women look stupid."
She went on to say that she has “just had enough of the silliness.”
On her show, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Kelly Ripa took things even farther than Wanda Sykes. After her cohost, Ryan Seacrest, announced that Hannah Brown would be coming on the show later on in the week, Kelly let the comments fly, outright calling the popular ABC reality series “disgusting.”
"I can’t stand the idea of 25 exceptional women fighting over one ordinary fella, in my opinion. You know how I feel, ladies — we are too special to be arguing over a guy."
Obviously, both Sykes and Ripa are entitled to their opinions. As much as we love The Bachelor, we even understand where they’re coming from. But come on, ladies! The show is all in good fun. While there are certainly fights that occur between the contestants every season, many of the competitors seem to recover nicely and play the game as though they know how ridiculous the set up is.
With Hannah Brown stopping by Ripa’s show this week to promote The Bachelorette, it will be interesting to see if the host gets called out on her negative comments. Night one of this season proved that Hannah doesn’t really mince words; will she comment on how Ripa’s opinions affect her? We’ll definitely be tuning in to find out.
