Former Bachelor Ben Higgins is offering help to prep Hannah Brown for her season as the Bachelorette. Here’s what advice he gave.
Ben Higgins may not be the Bachelor anymore, but he’s still coming in hot with advice for new leading men and women. This time around, he took to Us Weekly to reflect on Hannah Brown and new status as the Bachelorette.
He started off by commenting on Hannah’s unique approach to the season, taking note that he didn’t think she could have predicted her new role.
"Like, I don’t think she expected to be the Bachelorette, nor did she desire to be the Bachelorette after her season. So, this is all kind of a shock, which makes it really fun because it’s kind of, like, watching any one of us that would be placed in this crazy environment. So, I’m really excited for her season."
After that, Ben hopped in with the sage wisdom. As someone who has been around this franchise for a while (and seems to keep popping up as of late), he was ready to go with some crucial advice for Hannah Brown.
"Just be almost unapologetically yourself. She has quirkiness [and] this funny sense of humor. She, like, makes weird facial expressions and says weird things at times. And that’s a really endearing quality that I hope she doesn’t lose. [I hope] she doesn’t try to become too much of the model of a Bachelorette and just stays true to herself."
I’m not sure that anyone in Bachelor Nation ever really thought that “staying true to herself” would be hard for Hannah Brown. She was always true to her character, even when it sometimes made her look like part of a petty feud, like in her drama with Caelynn Miller-Keyes, or even just goofy and unprepared, like when she awkwardly suggested on After The Final Rose that she pick her first rose winner on the spot.
Hannah always seems to be exactly who she says she is and it doesn’t look like she’s going to compromise this just because she’s now leading a massively popular TV show. The new promo for her season of The Bachelorette seems to further underscore Hannah’s desire to set aside preconceived notions about who she is and lean into her own intuition and desires instead.
Just compare it to Colton Underwood’s promos from last season of The Bachelor that saw the former football pro leaning heavily into the virgin stereotypes. He was exactly what we expected.
Hannah Brown seems to be saying: “I am more than the beauty queen. Get to know me!” Even the music choice for the promo, Lesley Gore’s sultry cover of “You Don’t Own Me,” seems to underscore this powerful message. Ben Higgins’ advice is definitely not falling on deaf ears.
So was the advice even necessary? Probably not. Ben Higgins may be Bachelor Nation’s golden boy, but he’s proven recently that he might not be the best at understanding the inner workings of seasons that aren’t his own; in fact, he had even previously stated that he didn’t think Hannah Brown would prove to be the right fit for The Bachelorette. Hm. . .
